Costumed Senan: Tentacles, Trauma, and Top-Tier Tiles
Overview
Costumed Senan, released in April 2025, is a spectacular reinvention of the classic Slayer hero. By trading his spectral book for some very questionable tentacle appendages (and a Wizard class), he has transformed from a sluggish relic into a modern powerhouse. He retains the core "Slayer" identity—ramping up speed and healing—but does it so much faster and harder that he feels like a completely different hero.
Note: This review focuses on the Costumed version of Senan. If you are looking for the review of his base version, check our separate guide (spoiler: it's depressing).

Hero Art & Visuals
The "Cephaloid" theme is a bold departure from the original. Gone is the weary scholar; in his place is a cultist fully consumed by the depths. The teal and purple color palette is striking, and the tentacles add a dynamic, creepy flow to the card. It clearly signals: "I am not just cursing you; I am dragging you under." It’s deliciously eerie and fits the upgraded power level perfectly.

Hero Stats
Stat Analysis: This is a massive glow-up.
- Power (1207): A leap of 400 points over his base form.
- Attack (1245) & Defense (1148): These are competitive modern stats. He can take a hit, and unlike his base form, his "Hit All" special actually hurts.
- Health (2326): With over 2300 HP, he is a tanky beast. This durability is crucial because it guarantees he lives long enough for his Slayer stacks to kick in.
Special Skill: Curse of the Cephaloid
Skill Analysis: "Curse of the Cephaloid" is a masterclass in AoE pressure.
- 265% Damage to All: While the percentage is slightly lower than the base (275%), the massive attack stat increase means he deals significantly more damage in practice.
- Spectre Fiend (55% Attack): The fiends hit harder (55% vs 45%) and absorb more healing (35%). This makes them a genuine threat that must be cleansed or healed through immediately.
- The Game Changer (Stacks): This is the most critical upgrade.
- Mana Gen Stack: +12% per stack (up from +6%).
- HP Stack: 45 HP per turn (up from 30).
- Impact: He ramps up twice as fast. After just one cast (2 stacks), he gains +24% Mana Gen, effectively shifting his speed bracket immediately.
By the Numbers
- Mana Speed (Optimized):
- Base Slayer Speed: ~11 tiles.
- With Stacks: Because the Costume grants +12% mana gen per stack (max 10 stacks), he accelerates rapidly.
- Scenario: Fire once (2 stacks = +24%). Combine with a Mana Troop (20%+) and Bard/Class bonus. He can easily drop to 9 tiles (Fast) or even 6-7 tiles in extended fights.
- Math Check: A player noted that fully stacked (which is easier now with the 12% jumps), he can fire in as few as 4-5 tiles. That is absurd for a "Hit All" hero.
- Damage Output:
- Direct Damage: ~3,300 value (High).
- Bleed Passive: Adds 544 damage over 4 turns to ALL enemies. This is "free" damage attached to his special, raising his total damage output to lethal levels.
Family Bonus, Passives, Aether Power & Unique Abilities
Family Bonus
Analysis: The Slayer family bonus (50/75/100% chance for stacks) is now even more valuable because the stacks themselves (on the costume) are twice as potent. If you pair him with another Slayer, that passive mana gen tick can accidentally push him to full mana when you least expect it.
Passives
Analysis:
- Bleed on Special Skill: This is huge. 544 damage to all enemies is basically a second special skill. It ensures that even if the initial hit doesn't kill, the bleed often finishes them off.
- Resist Status Effect Damage: Still excellent for survival.
Aether Power
Analysis:Damage Reduction is a top-tier Aether Power. Unlike the base version's "Fiend Resist," Damage Reduction ensures Costumed Senan stays alive to keep stacking his mana. It synergizes perfectly with his high HP and self-healing stacks.
Legacy & Modern Relevance
- Historical Context: Base Senan was forgotten. Costumed Senan arrived in 2025 and immediately demanded respect.
- Power Creep Analysis: He has successfully power-crept himself. His stats and mechanics are fully aligned with the 2025/2026 meta.
- Modern Viability Verdict: Meta-Relevant. He is a staple in Rush Wars, a monster in Towers/Events, and a very strong contender for standard raid defense tanks or flanks.
Costume & Costume Bonus
The Verdict: The Costume is superior in every conceivable way.
- Comparison:
- Speed: Base Senan is a tortoise. Costumed Senan is a tortoise that straps a rocket to its back after turn 3.
- Damage: Costume deals significantly more upfront damage + massive Bleed damage.
- Survivability: Costume has nearly +1000 HP (with LB2 stats) over the original.
- Role Change: Base Senan was a support/soft-hitter. Costumed Senan is a primary carry. You build the team around ensuring he fires, because when he does, you usually win.
Emblem Path Analysis
Costumed Senan is a Wizard. He needs to survive to stack, but his damage is high enough to warrant aggression.
The Balanced Warlock (Defense/Health/Attack)
- Path: Focus on Defense/Health to reach the Shield path nodes, but take Attack nodes where free.
- Pros: Keeps him tanky (1300+ Defense) while ensuring his "Hit All" and Bleed still hurt.
- Cons: Slightly less burst damage than full attack.
The Annihilator (Attack/Health)
- Path: Attack > Health > Defense
- Pros: Maximizes the Bleed (if scaled? No, bleed is fixed usually, but direct damage scales).
- Cons: Risky if he dies before the first cast.
Final Recommendation
Go Defense > Health. His lethality comes from his Bleed (fixed damage) and his Fiends (based on attack, but survival is key to stacking). If he lives to fire twice, the match is over.
Strengths
- Incredible Speed Scaling: +12% Mana Gen per stack is the best scaling in the game.
- Total Damage Output: 265% Hit + 544 Bleed + Fiend Damage is a massive amount of total pressure.
- Survivability: High stats + Self-Healing Stacks + Damage Reduction Aether Power.
- Healing Block: Stronger fiends make it very hard for enemies to recover.
Weaknesses
- Vulnerable to Dispel/Cleanse: His Bleed and Fiends can be cleansed.
- Slow Start: He is still "Slayer" speed (Slow-ish) for the first cast. If he dies before firing once, he does nothing.
- Ludwig/Taunt Counters: He hits all, but taunt heroes can absorb the brunt of the special (though the fiends still land on everyone? No, usually blocked by taunt if it prevents targeting).
Best Game Modes
- Rush Attack: He is S-Tier here. The slow start is negated, and he just stacks speed for fun.
- Towers / Mythic Titans: In long fights, he reaches 10 stacks quickly and becomes a machine gun.
- Raid Defense: A nightmare tank or flank. If you don't kill him fast, he becomes unstoppable.
Advanced Strategy & Team Compositions
Sample Team Ideas
- The "Never Die" Defense: Costumed Senan (Tank) flanked by dual healers (e.g., Hathor, Arco). The healers keep him alive until his stacks make him faster than Very Fast heroes.
- The Mana Factory: Pair with Xnolphod or Ludwig. Force-feed him mana for the first cast. Once he has 2-4 stacks, he sustains himself.
Counters & Anti-Synergies
- Gargoyles (e.g., Kalo, Gaillard): Their stone skin can mitigate his initial hit.
- Blockers: Proteus or Hel stopping his mana generation prevents him from ever starting his ramp-up.
- Cleansers: Costumed Rigard or Vivica can wipe the bleed and fiends, resetting his pressure (but not his stacks).
Advice for New Players
If you are lucky enough to pull this costume, you have a top-tier hero. Prioritize leveling him immediately. He will carry you through almost all content.
Advice for Veterans
Costumed Senan is a worthy investment for Alpha Aethers. Unlike his base form, he has the stats and mechanics to compete in the top 100. He is a fantastic answer to passive-heavy teams because his Bleed and Fiends provide constant pressure that bypasses many defenses.
Community Corner: Hot Takes & History
- The Math Whizzes: "That double permanent +12% mana gen is his secret super weapon here. The guaranteed pretty high bleed damage passive is also nasty." - A sharp observer noting the real power lies in the passive.
- The Skeptic: "I would rather compare Costumed Senan to these heroes... Costumed Senan has better stats, but worse damage." - A player comparing him to heavy hitters, missing the point of his ramp-up speed.
- The Realization: "Is Senan now legit? The passives on this costume are solid and that mana bump and heal are not to be scoffed at."
Final Thoughts
Costumed Senan is the hero Senan was always meant to be. He retains the unique "Slayer" identity but sheds the sluggishness that held him back. With tentacles flailing and bleed damage ticking, he is a terrifying presence on the battlefield.
He isn't just "usable" because of the stats; he is deadly because of the mechanics.
Final Verdict: S-Tier.
