Sir Roostley: The Golden Chicken That Crossed The Road To Obscurity

Overview

Sir Roostley is a 5-star Legendary Holy hero from the Springvale family, originally released way back in 2020. He represents a simpler time in Empires & Puzzles, where a "Chain Attack" was a mind-blowing mechanic and self-debuffs were the "balance" for supposed power. As a Paladin, he was once meant to be a sturdy tank or flank, soaking up hits while zapping enemies with his laser lance.

Today, he stands as the only original Springvale hero without a costume (poor chicken), looking a bit like a rotisserie bird in a field of dragons and gods. He brings an Average speed chain attack that can theoretically hit everyone, provided the stars align, the wind is blowing east, and your opponent's tank is still alive.

Hero Art & Visuals

Sir Roostley is quite literally a giant rooster in shining armor. It's ridiculous, it's colorful, and it captures the whimsical essence of the Springvale event perfectly. He wields a lance that looks like a giant green carrot (or maybe just a festive lance, but let's go with carrot). His expression is one of supreme confidence—the kind of unearned confidence you have before you step into a war battle and get one-shot by a modern sniper. It’s charming, classic E&P art that doesn't take itself too seriously.

Hero Stats

To put it bluntly, Sir Roostley's stats are ancient.

  • Attack (778): This was decent in 2020. In 2026, where modern support heroes often have 1300+ attack, this is barely a scratch.
  • Defense (727) & Health (1347): These durability stats are dangerously low. Even with his Paladin class defensive boost, he is extremely fragile. A modern sniper can likely delete him without even needing a defense down ailment.

Compared to modern behemoths boasting 1300+ stats across the board, Sir Roostley is fighting with one wing tied behind his back.

Special Skill: Luminous Lance

Analysis: The Luminous Lance is a "Chain Attack" mechanic. It hits the target for 310% damage and then chains to adjacent enemies.

  • The Chain Mechanic: It works like electricity. If you hit the Tank (position 3), it chains to Flanks (2 and 4), and then to Wings (1 and 5), hitting everyone. However, if you hit a Wing (1), it chains to the Flank (2), then the Tank (3), and so on.
  • The Problem: The chain breaks if it hits a "gap" (a dead hero) or if the attack misses (due to blind or dodge). If the enemy Tank is dead—which is often the case by the time an Average speed hero fires—hitting a Flank will only hit that Flank and the Wing next to it. You lose half your damage potential immediately.
  • The Drawback: He gives himself -20% Attack for 3 turns. This is uncleansable. Why? Because in 2020, hitting 5 enemies for 310% was considered "too strong." Today, heroes hit everyone for 500% and gain buffs. This drawback is now just an insult to injury.

By the Numbers

  • Mana Speed: Average (10 tiles). With a Level 23 Mana Troop, this drops to 9 tiles.
  • Damage Potential (Ideal): 310% x 5 enemies = 1550% total damage. This looks high on paper.
  • Damage Potential (Realistic): Often, the tank is dead. Hitting a flank hits 2-3 enemies max. 310% x 2 = 620% total damage. For an Average speed hero, that is abysmal.
  • Self-Nerf: The -20% attack reduction means his subsequent slash attacks or a second special firing (if he lives that long) will be significantly weaker.

Family Bonus, Passives, Aether Power & Unique Abilities

Family Bonus

The Springvale family bonus gives Attack Power.

  • 2 Heroes: +10% Attack
  • 3 Heroes: +20% Attack This is actually a nice boost if you run him with Killhare or Master Lepus. It can somewhat offset his self-inflicted attack down, but it requires running multiple outdated heroes together.

Passives

Sir Roostley has no passive skills. He comes from an era before heroes had paragraphs of text just for existing.

Aether Power

Special Boost increases his special skill damage slightly when Limit Broken. While damage is what he needs, a defensive power like Damage Reduction or Bulwark might have helped him survive long enough to actually use it.

Legacy & Modern Relevance

  • Historical Context: Upon release, Sir Roostley was "A-Tier." Players loved the chain mechanic and the high damage ceiling. He was a viable tank because he punished bad boards; if you couldn't kill him, he'd fire and hit your whole team.
  • Power Creep Analysis: Power creep has not been kind to the Rooster. His damage percentages are low compared to modern "Hit All" heroes who essentially do what he does but better, faster, and without condition. The "Chain" mechanic is now a liability rather than a feature, as it's too easily disrupted by the flow of battle (dead enemies).
  • Modern Viability: Low. He is effectively a bench warmer for most rosters. He might see play in Rush Attack wars if you literally have no other Yellow options, or in Class Quests, but he is too slow and too weak for serious PvP.

Emblem Path Analysis

The Survivalist (Defense/Health)

  • Path: Defense > Health > Attack
  • Pros: He is incredibly squishy. He needs every point of defense to survive a single hit from a modern sniper. The Paladin class talent (Protect) synergizes with high defense.
  • Cons: His only value is damage. Making him tanky means he hits like a wet noodle, especially with his self-attack down.

The Glass Cannon (Attack/Defense)

  • Path: Attack > Defense > Health
  • Pros: Maximizes the damage of his special skill. If he's going to fire, you want it to hurt.
  • Cons: He will die. Quickly. A stiff breeze or a minion hit might take him out.

Final Recommendation

If you insist on using him, go Attack/Defense. His only role is to deal damage. If he's not doing damage, he's doing nothing. You just have to pray he fires before he explodes.

Strengths

  • High Damage Ceiling: In a perfect scenario (Rush war, enemy team full health), he can hit all 5 enemies for decent damage.
  • Paladin Class: The chance to get +25% defense when hit is one of the better defensive talents.
  • Art: He looks like a knighted chicken. That's a strength in my book.

Weaknesses

  • Unreliable Targeting: The chain breaks if enemies are dead or if he misses.
  • Self-Debuff: -20% attack reduction is a painful penalty for a skill that isn't even overpowered anymore.
  • Outdated Stats: He is statistically irrelevant compared to 2025/2026 heroes.
  • Average Speed: Too slow for the impact he provides.

Best Game Modes

  • Rush Attack (Very Fast) Wars/Tournaments: This is his only real home. At Very Fast speed, he might fire before the enemy tank dies, ensuring a hit on all 5 enemies.
  • Farming: He's okay for clearing map stages where enemies don't hit back hard.

Advanced Strategy & Team Compositions

Sample Team Ideas

  • The "Springvale Suicide Squad": Sir Roostley + Killhare + Master Lepus. The family bonus gives them all +20% attack, which helps mitigate their various self-defense/attack debuffs. It's a glass cannon team that aims to wipe the enemy in one turn.
  • The "Yellow Rush": Sir Roostley + Vivica (C2) + Ogima. In Rush wars, pair him with a defense down hero (like Vivica) to maximize his chain damage.

Counters & Anti-Synergies

  • Blind/Dodge (Drake Fong, C. Kadilen): If Roostley misses his first target, the chain stops. He hits nobody else. Blind is his absolute worst nightmare.
  • Riposte (Cyprian, Boril, Elena): Since he hits multiple enemies, he will likely kill himself instantly on a counter-attack buff.

Advice for New Players

If you pull Sir Roostley early in your game, he is usable. A 5-star is a 5-star, and his damage will clear Season 1 map stages easily. However, do not invest legendary ascension materials (Darts) in him if you have any modern 5-star Yellow hero, or even a solid modern Costume 4-star (like C2 Li Xiu).

Advice for Veterans

He is a collector's item. Do not Limit Break him. Do not give him Alpha Aethers. He serves as a reminder of how far the game has come. If you have duplicates, he is excellent fodder for the Soul Exchange.

Community Corner: Hot Takes & History

The community has had a love-hate relationship with the Rooster over the years.

  • "I think he’s a mixed bag... The chain idea is horrible as is, it would make much more sense if the damage is increased after every chain." - A common sentiment regarding his mechanic.
  • "He was never a good hero. He never did enough damage for his speed and his chain attack is very very deceptible to blindness." - A harsh but fair retrospective.
  • "Is Sir Roostley worth Summoning For? Not really." - The poll results speak for themselves.

Final Thoughts

Sir Roostley is a relic. He's a fun concept—a noble chicken knight—trapped in a stat block from half a decade ago. His special skill, while visually cool, is mechanically flawed for offensive raids where you want to kill the tank first. With the release of massive powerhouses in the Springvale family (like Archie) and no costume to save him, Roostley is unfortunately more "chicken dinner" than "winner winner."

Verdict: Bench him, or trade him. But maybe keep one copy just to hear him cluck.
