Costumed Karnov: The Bedtime Bruiser Wakes Up Choosing Violence
Overview
It takes a confident villain to show up to the battlefield in a bathrobe, sleep mask, and holding a toothbrush. Costumed Karnov, affectionately known as the "Bedtime Bruiser," brings a massive stat overhaul to the aging League of Villains hero. While still Slow speed, his power levels have been dragged kicking and screaming into the modern era. This review focuses on the Costumed version, which essentially replaces the base hero for almost every use case.

Hero Art & Visuals
The art team had fun with this one. Gone is the serious, bare-chested brawler. In his place is a man who was clearly woken up from a nap and is furious about it. The detailsβthe gold chain clock, the toothbrush held like a shank, the plaid boxersβare fantastic. Itβs a hilarious contrast to his devastating special skill. He embodies the energy of "I will destroy you, but first, let me brush my teeth."

Hero Stats
Base Stats (No Emblems)
| Level | Attack | Defense | Health | πͺPower |
|---|---|---|---|---|
4/80 | 1287 | 1112 | 2259 | 1203 |
4/85lb1 | 1387 | 1198 | 2434 | 1286 |
4/90lb2 | 1587 | 1371 | 2785 | 1454 |
This is the glow-up we were waiting for. With the costume bonus, Karnov's power jumps to over 1200.
- Attack (~1287): Respectable. He can now actually deal damage rather than just tickling enemies.
- Defense (~1112) & Health (~2259): His health pool is massive, rivaling the latest tank heroes. His defense is slightly lower than pure tanks, but the health compensates well. Compared to the 2026 meta, he is Average to Good. He isn't breaking the 1350+ power ceiling of the newest Construct or Astral heroes, but he is no longer a liability.
Special Skill: Slumbering Beatdown

Slumbering Beatdown
- Deals 340% damage to all enemies.
- Alters the power of all Dark shields on the board. When an attacking Hero casts the special, the shields become enhanced with +64% attack. When a defending Hero casts the special, the shields become weakened with -57% attack.
- Deals extra damage against Holy.
Slumbering Beatdown is a straight upgrade:
- 340% Damage to All: This is a significant bump from the base version's 290%. At his higher attack stat, this hurts.
- Board Alteration: Retains the signature +64% Attack to Dark Shields (and weakening on defense). This keeps him as the king of Dark tile damage.
- Extra Damage vs Holy: A nice cherry on top, making him an absolute nightmare for yellow heroes.
By the Numbers
- Damage Output: With ~1287 Attack and 340% multiplier, he deals roughly 4,375 raw damage units. This is nearly double the output of his base form.
- Passive Curse: Don't overlook the passive. Dealing 461 Curse damage over 4 turns to all enemies adds another ~2300 total damage to the board. It forces cleanses and softens up teams for the kill.
- Effective Speed: Still Slow. This is his limiting factor. Without Rush Attack rules or mana troops, he is too slow for standard raids.
Family Bonus, Passives, Aether Power & Unique Abilities
Family Bonus

Challenge Festival II - Villains
- Bonus for 1/2/3 Heroes:
- +10%/+30%/+50% chance to heal 15%/35%/70% of dealt damage when attacking an enemy.
- +40%/+80%/+120% more damage dealt against Minions and Mega Minions.
- The members of this family have additional perks in the Challenge Festival events.
The Villain Family bonus (healing on damage) is actually useful now because Costumed Karnov deals significant damage. Healing for 15-70% of a 340% AoE hit can fully heal him instantly.
Passives
Passive Skills
Curse on Special SkillWhen this character casts their Special Skill, all enemies receive 461 Curse damage over 4 turns, starting low and increasing every turn.
- Curse on Special: As mentioned, this is free damage. Itβs unblockable (mostly) and adds up.
- Damage Reduction: He takes less damage naturally? Yes, please. This helps him survive until he can fire his Slow special.
Aether Power

Damage Reduction
At the start of each battle, all damage received by this Hero is reduced by -10% for 6 turns.
Damage Reduction fits him perfectly. As a slow hero, his job is to survive until he fires. Combined with his high HP, this makes him surprisingly tanky.
Legacy & Modern Relevance
- Power Creep Analysis: Costumed Karnov brings a 2021 hero up to 2025/2026 standards. He is not "broken" or "OP" like the latest 5-star heroes with 3 passives and Fast speed, but he is Solid.
- Modern Viability Verdict:
- Rush Attack: Top Tier. With Very Fast speed, his 340% hit + Curse + Board control is devastating.
- Titans: God Tier. The stats boost means higher tile damage, and he survives 14* Titans easily.
- Standard Raid: Niche. Usable if you lack other purples, but generally too slow.
Costume & Costume Bonus
Base vs. Costume:
- There is no contest. The Costume is better in every single metric.
- Class Change: Monk (Base) vs Fighter (Costume).
- Monk is great for resisting mana ailments.
- Fighter is great for reviving and firing one last devastating shot.
- Generally, Fighter is preferred for defense/Rush, while Monk might have niche use on offense if you fear Proteus/Hel. But the Costume's stats are so much better you should use the Costume even if you lose the Monk class.
Emblem Path Analysis
The "Rush Tank" (Defense Path)
- Path: Defense > Health > Attack
- Pros: Maximizes his massive health pool and Aether damage reduction. Makes him a brick wall in Rush wars.
- Cons: Lowers his tile damage for Titans slightly.
The "Titan Crusher" (Attack Path)
- Path: Attack > Health > Defense
- Pros: 1287 Attack is high; emblems push this even higher for massive tile damage.
- Cons: Slightly softer on defense.
Final Recommendation
Go Attack Path. His primary role is Titans. Even in Rush wars, his high base HP allows him to survive, but you want his special and tiles to hit as hard as possible.
Strengths
- Massive Stat Upgrade: He is finally durable and hits hard.
- Titan Utility: The best Dark tile buffer in the game, now with stats to survive.
- Fighter Class: Revive can win games.
- Passive DOT: Adds consistent pressure even if the initial hit doesn't kill.
Weaknesses
- Still Slow: The costume didn't fix his speed. He is a sitting duck in standard mana speed formats.
- Specific Niche: Outside of Rush and Titans, he struggles to find a spot on rosters deep with Fast heroes.
Best Game Modes
- Rush Attack Wars/Tournaments: He shines here. 340% to all at Very Fast speed is scary.
- Titans: Absolutely mandatory for high-level play against Yellow Titans.
- PvE / Towers: His high HP and AoE damage make him good for clearing waves in events like Tower of Magic (where you get mana buffs).
Advanced Strategy & Team Compositions
Sample Team Ideas
- The Rush Defense:
- KalΓΈ (Left Wing) + C. Karnov (Tank) + Alfrike (Flank).
- Why: If they kill Karnov, KalΓΈ fires his skill. If they don't, Karnov buffs the board for Alfrike's cubes.
- The Titan Mono-Dark:
- Gastille + C. Karnov + SharβKhai + C. Rigard + G. Panther.
- Why: Maximum tile damage synergy.
Counters & Anti-Synergies
- Mana Control: As always, slow heroes hate Hel, Proteus, and Ruby.
- Taunt: He hits all, so Taunt doesn't stop him completely, but it prevents him from softening the whole team effectively if buffs are blocked.
Advice for New Players
If you pull this Costume, you have a gem. He will carry you through map stages (high health/AoE damage) and get you into higher Titan loot tiers. Max him ASAP.
Advice for Veterans
You likely have him for Titans already. The Costume makes him safer to use on 14* Titans (no more one-shots) and gives you a viable option for Rush wars. Limit Break 1 is recommended for stats; Limit Break 2 is a luxury unless you really love Rush wars.
Community Corner: Hot Takes & History
- "What do you think about the artwork? Amazing. Refreshingly new." - Players loved the pajama theme.
- "Even at average this one is a joke." - Some cynics were unimpressed by the speed, but the stats tell a different story.
- "Is Costumed Karnov worth giving Monk Emblems to the original hero? Depends on who else you got." - The Fighter class is generally seen as an upgrade.
Final Thoughts
Costumed Karnov proves that you can teach an old dog new tricksβor at least put him in pajamas and give him steroids. He has transitioned from a niche, outdated hero into a powerhouse for specific modes. He isn't the most versatile hero in the game, but in his domain (Titans & Rush), he rules supreme.
Value: High (Rush/Titan). Verdict: Viable.

Costumed Jequn Review: All That Glitters Is Actually Gold?
"Jequn is back with a flashy new 'Gilded' costume that trades his Monk robes for Rogue daggers. With a massive health boost and sharpened debuffs, the Cosmic Enigma is trying to solve the puzzle of modern power creep. Is the upgrade from 'Archaic' to 'Golden' enough to make him a staple again?"
