Costumed Lu Bu: Finally, A Warlord Worthy of the Name
Overview
For years, Lu Bu was the "almost" heroβscary concept, mediocre execution. With the release of his Wrathful Tiger Warlord costume, the legendary warrior of the Three Kingdoms has finally received the stats and toolkit to match his reputation. As a Slow mana Dark (Purple) Fighter, Costumed Lu Bu is a juggernaut designed to crush teams in Rush Wars and serve as a formidable tank or flank in standard play. This review focuses on the Costumed Version, which transforms him from a benchwarmer into a genuine threat.

Hero Art & Visuals
The Tiger Warlord costume is... certainly something. Gone is the sleek, dark armor of the original; in its place is a bulky, purple-and-gold ensemble featuring massive tiger heads on his shoulders. While some players have joked that he looks like he "ate a few pizzas" before suiting up, there's no denying the imposing bulk of the new design. It screams "tankiness," which fits his massive new stat line perfectly. He looks like a raid boss, and frankly, he hits like one too.

Hero Stats
Base Stats (No Emblems)
| Level | Attack | Defense | Health | πͺPower |
|---|---|---|---|---|
4/80 | 1065 | 1098 | 2156 | 1107 |
4/85lb1 | 1147 | 1183 | 2324 | 1183 |
4/90lb2 | 1313 | 1354 | 2659 | 1335 |
This is where the magic happens. The costume provides a massive stat overhaul. With base stats pushing 1063 Attack, 1097 Defense, and a colossal 2156 Health (before emblems and limit breaks), Costumed Lu Bu is an absolute unit. He has modern tank-level durability, ensuring he actually survives long enough to fire his Slow specialβsomething the original version struggled with desperately.
Special Skill: Ravaging Charge

Ravaging Charge
- Deals 320% damage to all enemies.
- Summons a Mercenary Fiend for all enemies. The Fiend damages the enemy with 70% attack every turn.
- The Mercenary Fiend absorbs healing and disappears when it has absorbed health equal to 50% of its target's max health.
- When summoned, the Mercenary Fiend causes its target to be immune to new buffs. The effect lasts as long as the target has Mercenary Fiends. This effect can't be cleansed.
Ravaging Charge is a modernized, deadlier version of his original skill:
- The Damage: 320% damage to all enemies. While the percentage is slightly lower than the original (330%), his significantly higher Attack stat means the actual damage output is far greater. It hits hard.
- The Fiend Upgrade: The Mercenary Fiend now damages for 70% attack per turn (up from 56%) and absorbs healing equal to 50% of max health (up from 38%). This is huge. A 50% healing absorption means the enemy healer often needs two casts to remove the fiend, keeping the debuff active longer.
- The Utility: The Buff Immunity remains. As long as that beefy fiend is attached, the target cannot receive new buffs. This shuts down taunters, defense buffers, and HoT healers cold.
By the Numbers
- Mana Speed: Slow (12 tiles). Still his main weakness, but the Fighter class revive gives him a second chance to charge.
- Fiend Durability: With modern health pools hovering around 3000, a 50% absorption fiend requires ~1500 healing to remove. That is a massive resource drain for the enemy.
- Damage Output: A 320% hit off ~1300 Attack (LB2) is devastating, easily stripping 1000+ HP from softer targets before the fiends even start biting.
Family Bonus, Passives, Aether Power & Unique Abilities
The costume brings a new passive into the mix, though it requires some team building to utilize.
Family Bonus

Three Kingdoms - Kingdoms
- Bonus for 1/2/3 Unique Heroes:
- 2% / 4% / 6% mana each time a Minion is summoned for the Hero.
- 3% / 5% / 7% heal each time a Minion is summoned for the Hero.
- Morale Boost:
- Heroes belonging to this family as well as heroes fighting alongside with them receive additional perks in War of the Three Kingdoms:
- +10% attack, + 3% defense, +7% health
Like the base version, he gains mana and health when a minion is summoned for him. He still doesn't summon his own minions, so pairing him with Kingdom allies like Diaochan or Liu Bei is crucial to unlocking this free mana engine.
Passives
Passive Skills
Unstoppable Minions- Immune to effects that remove Minions.
- Can't be prevented from receiving Minions.
- Minion attacks and abilities can't be disabled.
Unstoppable Minions: This passive prevents his minions from being removed or disabled. However, Lu Bu summons fiends, not minions. This passive creates a strange catch-22: it is completely useless unless you bring a minion summoner to give him minions. If you do (e.g., with Hulda or Diaochan), those minions become unremovable meat shields, making him even harder to kill.
Aether Power

Regen
At the start of each battle, this Hero regenerates 420 health over 6 turns.
Regen (Recover Health) replaces Fiend Resist. This is a solid upgrade for a tanky hero. The constant passive healing helps him shrug off chip damage and tile hits while he waits for his mana to charge.
Legacy & Modern Relevance
- Historical Context: The original Lu Bu was a feared niche hero who fell off due to stats. The costume was released to drag him kicking and screaming back into the meta.
- Power Creep Analysis: The stat boost alone "un-creeps" him. He now stands toe-to-toe with the latest Goblins and Astral heroes in terms of raw numbers.
- Modern Viability Verdict: Viable. He is a top-tier option for Rush Wars and a very strong contender for tank or flank positions in standard wars, especially in buff-heavy metas.
Costume & Costume Bonus
Comparing the two versions is like comparing a tricycle to a tank.
- Base vs. Costume: The Costume offers better stats, a better class (Fighter > Barbarian), and significantly stronger fiends.
- The Verdict: The Costume is superior in every way. The only reason to use the base version is if you specifically need the Barbarian class for a quest, which is unlikely. Use the Costume.
Emblem Path Analysis
As a Slow hero who wants to tank or flank, survival is key, but his high damage ceiling also beckons.
The Juggernaut (Recommended)
- Path: Defense > Health > Attack
- Pros: Maximizes his massive health pool and defense, ensuring he fires at least once. With the Fighter revive, he becomes incredibly annoying to put down.
- Cons: Sacrifices some kill pressure on the initial hit.
The Warlord
- Path: Attack > Defense > Health
- Pros: Makes his AoE hit absolutely nuking.
- Cons: Slightly riskier if he gets focused down before firing.
Final Recommendation
Go Defense/Health. His job is to apply the Buff Block fiends. If he survives to fire, the fiends will do the rest of the work.
Strengths
- Anti-Meta Utility: Buff Immunity is one of the strongest counters to modern OP heroes who rely on buffs (e.g., Hathor, Aramis, Phorcys).
- Beefy Fiends: 50% healing absorption is oppressive.
- Fighter Class: The chance to revive with full mana (if charged) can swing a losing match instantly.
- Stat Stick: Huge base stats make him a wall.
Weaknesses
- Slow Speed: Still requires 12 tiles (or 9 in Rush). He can be outpaced.
- Passive Reliance: His "Unstoppable Minions" passive is dead weight without a teammate to summon minions.
- Cleanse Vulnerability: While the buff block is uncleansable while the fiend is active, simply healing the fiend away removes the effect.
Best Game Modes
- Rush Attack: He is a god here. Very Fast speed makes him a nightmare.
- War Defense: A solid tank or flank who punishes bad boards.
- PvE / Towers: Excellent for locking down bosses who spam buffs.
Advanced Strategy & Team Compositions
- The "Kingdom" Engine: Pair with Costumed Diaochan or Liu Bei. They provide the minions to trigger his passive (Unstoppable Minions) and his family bonus (Mana/Heal), turning him into an unkillable machine.
- The "Anti-Heal" Lock: Pair with Viscaro or other fiend summoners. Overwhelming the enemy with fiends makes it impossible for them to heal, ensuring the Buff Immunity never expires.
Advice for New Players
He is expensive to level, but worth it. He will be your anchor in difficult map stages and a war hero you will use for years.
Advice for Veterans
He is a prime candidate for Limit Breaking (LB2) if you focus on Rush Wars or need a dedicated anti-buff specialist. While he isn't a "must-have" for top 100 defenses, he is a devastating offensive tool in your deep roster.
Community Corner: Hot Takes & History
- "How did they manage to make the art worse? Lu Bu looks like he ate a few pizzas before putting on this costume." - The community was not kind to the art direction.
- "Really not that different from Madame Giry... but Lu Bu does have significantly better stats though." - Comparisons to other fiend summoners highlighted his raw power.
- "In rush war, He is a beast." - The universal consensus: do not face him in Rush if you can avoid it.
Final Thoughts
Costumed Lu Bu is the redemption arc we waited for. He trades the sleek look of the original for raw, unadulterated power. With fiends that are almost impossible to heal off quickly and stats that let him shrug off sniper hits, he forces the enemy to play by his rules. If you can look past the pizza-bloat artwork, you'll find a Warlord ready to conquer.
Verdict: A Rush War King and a solid A-tier hero for everyday play.
