Senan, The Accursed: Slow, Steady, and Mostly Dead (In This Meta)
Overview
Senan is a 5-star Dark (Purple) hero from the Slayer Family, originally released during the Slayers of Fell Shadows event (now part of Challenge Festival II). He is a Sorcerer class hero who embodies the "inevitable doom" archetypeβhe starts slow, ramps up his speed and healing with every turn, and eventually overwhelms the enemy with AoE damage and fiends.
Or at least, that was the plan in 2021. In the current era of Empires & Puzzles, Senan is like bringing a musket to a laser fight. He's charmingly vintage, but you probably shouldn't rely on him to save your life.
Note: This review focuses on the base version of Senan. If you are looking for the review of his tentacle-clad Costumed version, please check our separate guide.

Hero Art & Visuals
Senanβs design is "grizzled warlock chic." He looks like heβs seen thingsβterrible thingsβand hasn't slept in about three decades. The floating book, the spectral hands, and the wild beard give him a very distinct "mad scholar" vibe. Itβs a classic fantasy design that communicates his role perfectly: heβs here to curse you, summon ghosts, and maybe lecture you about ancient history while you die.

Hero Stats
Base Stats (No Costume Bonus)
| Level | Attack | Defense | Health | πͺPower |
|---|---|---|---|---|
4/80 | 731 | 813 | 1421 | 807 |
4/85lb1 | 788 | 876 | 1531 | 860 |
4/90lb2 | 901 | 1003 | 1752 | 966 |
Stat Analysis: Let's not sugarcoat it: Base Senan's stats are severely outdated.
- Attack (731): This is now lower than many modern 4-star heroes. Modern 5-star attackers sit comfortably above 1300.
- Defense (813) & Health (1421): While these were tanky numbers upon his release, they are now paper-thin compared to the 1300 Defense / 2300+ Health behemoths roaming the arena today. He will struggle to survive long enough for his Slayer speed to actually ramp up.
Special Skill: Curse of the Specter

Curse of the Specter
- Deals 275% damage to the all enemies.
- Summons a Spectre Fiend for all enemies. The Fiend damages its target with 45% attack every turn.
- The Spectre Fiend absorbs healing. It disappears after absorbing a healing amount equal to 30% of it's target's max health.
- Stack (Max: 10): The caster gets +6% mana generation
- Stack +2 (Max: 10): The caster recovers 30 HP each turn.
Skill Analysis: "Curse of the Specter" is a mixed bag of utility and damage that suffers greatly from low numbers.
- 275% Damage to All: At 731 Attack, this tickles. Itβs not a wipe; itβs a gentle nudge. Modern "Hit All" heroes often deal 450%+ with nearly double the base attack.
- Spectre Fiend: The fiend absorbs healing (30% of target max HP) and deals 45% attack damage per turn. The healing absorption is the real utility here, acting as a soft heal block. However, the damage is negligible.
- The Ramp-Up: The skill adds stacks of Mana Gen (+6%) and HP recovery (+30). This is the core Slayer mechanic, but on the base version, itβs just too slow.
By the Numbers
- Mana Speed (Slayer): Slayer speed starts at 11 tiles.
- With a level 29 Mana Troop (+15%) and Sorcerer Emblem node (+4%), he starts at ~9.2 tiles.
- The Trap: He needs to fire or wait for family stacks to speed up. In a fast meta, he often dies before he reaches his "Fast" potential.
- Damage Potential:
- 275% of 731 Attack = ~2,010 damage value (before defense).
- For comparison, a modern hero like Costumed Senan deals 265% of 1245 Attack = ~3,300 damage value. The base version is dealing roughly 60% of the damage of his modern counterpart.
- Passive Impact: The Slayer stacks cap at +60% Mana Gen and +300 HP/turn. If you reach 10 stacks, he becomes a machine gun. Getting to 10 stacks with base stats is the impossible challenge.
Family Bonus, Passives, Aether Power & Unique Abilities
The Slayer family is all about the long game.
Family Bonus

Challenge Festival II - Slayers
- Bonus for 1/2/3 Heroes:
- * 50%/75%/100% chance to receive the following stacks at the end of each turn:
- * Stack (Max: 10): The caster recovers 15 HP each turn.
- * Stack (Max: 10): The caster gets +6% mana generation.
- The members of this family have additional perks in the Challenge Festival events.
Analysis: The 50%/75%/100% chance to gain a stack (Health and Mana Gen) at the end of every turn is excellent if you run multiple Slayers. Alone (50% chance), it's unreliable. This bonus is the only thing that makes the "Slayer" speed manageable, as it passively accelerates him without needing tiles.
Passives
Passive Skills
Resist Damage from Status EffectsThis character is immune to incoming damage from status effects and stacks.
Analysis:
- Resist Status Effect Damage: Senan takes 50% less damage from burns, poisons, etc. This is actually a very strong passive that helps him survive against DoT-heavy teams, which fits his "outlast them" playstyle.
Aether Power

Fiend Resist
At the start of each battle, this Hero is immune to new Fiends for 6 turns.
Analysis:Fiend Resist is generally considered one of the weaker Aether Powers. It helps him not get blocked by enemy fiends, but compared to Damage Reduction or Regen, it feels underwhelming for a hero who is already struggling to stay alive.
Legacy & Modern Relevance
- Historical Context: Upon release in 2021, Senan was a monster in Rush Wars and a formidable tank/flank in standard play. The idea of a hero who got stronger and faster as the fight dragged on was terrifying.
- Power Creep Analysis: Time has been cruel. His damage is no longer threatening, his bulk is non-existent, and his "slow-to-fast" ramp-up is too slow for battles that are often decided in 3-4 turns.
- Modern Viability Verdict: Bench. Without his costume, Base Senan is effectively retired from high-level play. He might see niche use in Rush Attack tournaments or wars if you lack better purple options, but even there, he is outclassed by faster, harder-hitting modern heroes.
Costume & Costume Bonus
This is the most important section for Senan owners. The Costume is mandatory.
- The Upgrade: The Costume (Senan C1) doesn't just boost stats; it fixes his mechanics.
- Mana Stack: Base Senan gets +6% mana per stack. Costumed Senan gets +12%. This means the Costume reaches "Fast" speed in half the time.
- Health Stack: Base recovers 30 HP. Costume recovers 45 HP.
- Stats: The Costume has modern 2025-era stats (~1245 Attack vs 731).
- Costume Bonus: Even if you prefer the artwork of the base version (you shouldn't play it), the Costume Bonus provides a massive stat boost to the base form.
- Recommendation: There is zero reason to run Base Senan if you have the Costume. The Costume does everything the base does, but with double the speed ramp-up and nearly double the stats.
Emblem Path Analysis
If you must emblem Base Senan (perhaps for a 5-star Rush Tournament where you are restricted on heroes), you need him to survive.
The Survivor (Defense/Health)
- Path: Defense > Health > Attack
- Pros: Maximizes his outdated defense to help him survive long enough to fire.
- Cons: His attack is already low; this makes his special hit like a wet noodle.
Final Recommendation
Go Defense/Health. Senan's job is to apply Fiends and block healing. He isn't a sniper. Keep him alive so he can keep the ghosts coming.
Strengths
- Healing Inhibition: The Spectre Fiend is annoying for healers, absorbing a chunk of healing before disappearing.
- Rush War Viability: At Very Fast speed, his slow ramp-up matters less, and his fiends can be oppressive.
- Passive Durability: 50% resistance to DoT helps him stick around.
Weaknesses
- Abysmal Base Stats: He is incredibly fragile by modern standards.
- Too Slow: Slayer speed without the Costume's +12% stack is painful.
- Low Damage: 275% AoE is negligible against modern defenses.
- RNG Dependency: Alone, he only has a 50% chance per turn to gain a stack.
Best Game Modes
- Rush Attack Wars/Tournaments: This is his retirement home. He can still be annoying here.
- Tower Events: In very long battles where he can safely reach 10 stacks, he becomes a machine gun.
Advanced Strategy & Team Compositions
If you are using Base Senan, you are likely playing defensively or in a Rush format.
Sample Team Ideas
- The Slayer Stack: Pair him with other Slayers (e.g., Caitlin, Rian) to guarantee the Family Bonus stacks (100% chance). This is the only way to make Base Senan feel consistent.
- The Fiend Overload: Pair with Elizabeth or Hannah. Overwhelming the enemy with fiends can effectively block 100% of their healing.
Counters & Anti-Synergies
- Minion Summoners: Heroes who summon minions (like Freya or Bera) provide a meat shield that absorbs Senan's weak damage.
- Cleansers/Healers: While he blocks healing, a strong burst healer like Ariel or Hathor can often clear the fiend and the damage in one go.
- Lunar New Year Heroes: Heroes like Laohu or Erlang Shen punish passives or resist minions/fiends.
Advice for New Players
If you pulled Senan early in your game journey, he is a great asset! His fiends will carry you through map stages and lower-tier raids. Level him up, but be wary of spending precious Aethers (Limit Break materials) on him unless you get his Costume.
Advice for Veterans
He is Soul Exchange fodder unless you pull his Costume. Base Senan occupies a roster spot that could be used for a modern 4-star who likely has better stats. Do not Limit Break him. Do not Emblem him unless you have a surplus of Sorcerer emblems and nothing to do with them.
Community Corner: Hot Takes & History
- Legacy: "I am very tempted to ascend this guy over Alfrike to be honest." - A player in 2021, clearly making a decision they might regret today.
- On Release: Players were initially confused by the "Slayer" speed math, with debates raging over whether he was "Slow" or "Average" in practice.
- The Costume Reality: "Is Costumed Senan worth Summoning For? Yes, absolutely." The community consensus is clear: the Costume saved this hero from oblivion.
Final Thoughts
Base Senan is a ghost of his former selfβliterally and figuratively. He represents a cool mechanic (Slayer stacks) that was too cautiously balanced in 2021 to survive the power creep of the 2020s. While his artwork remains top-tier, his performance on the battlefield is strictly bottom-tier without his Costume.
If you have him without the costume, keep him locked in the tower. If you have the costume, put it on and never take it off.
Final Verdict: D-Tier (Base) / A-Tier (With Costume).
