Costumed Yunan: Baywatch on a Budget
Overview
When Yunan got his costume, he didn't just change his outfit; he changed his entire philosophy. Trading his "King of Sand" persona for the "King of Lifeguards," this 5-star Nature hero shifted from a selfish attrition tank to a supportive powerhouse. Released in 2021, the costume attempts to fix the glaring issues of the base hero by adding modern utility like a full-team cleanse and mana acceleration. This review focuses on the Costumed Version, asking the question: can a slow lifeguard save your team from drowning in the current meta?

Hero Art & Visuals
Let's address the elephant in the room: he looks ridiculous, and we love it. Gone is the serious, imposing golden armor. In its place, we have a bearded giant in a red lifeguard jacket, holding a massive wooden kickboard like itβs a tower shield. Itβs campy, itβs fun, and it completely undermines the seriousness of the battlefield. The "Baywatch" vibe is strong, and frankly, if you're going to lose a raid, it might as well be to a guy who looks like he shouts "No running on the pool deck!" as a battle cry.

Hero Stats
Base Stats (No Emblems)
| Level | Attack | Defense | Health | πͺPower |
|---|---|---|---|---|
4/80 | 800 | 993 | 1847 | 941 |
4/85lb1 | 863 | 1071 | 1991 | 1005 |
4/90lb2 | 987 | 1225 | 2278 | 1132 |
The costume provides a significant stat bump over the base version. With maxed stats (including LB2) pushing his defense over 1200 and health over 2200, he is undeniably sturdy. While his attack stat of roughly 800 (pre-LB) is still on the lower side for a 5-star, his bulk allows him to actually survive long enough to use his Slow speed skill. Compared to modern monsters with 1300+ stats across the board, he is "average" rather than "obsolete," which is a massive improvement.
Special Skill: Sand Storm (Costume)

Wipeout
- Deals 215% damage to all enemies.
- All enemies receive 815 Sand damage over 5 turns.
- All allies get +33% mana generation for 5 turns.
- Cleanses status ailments from all allies.
Analysis: The "Lifeguard" version of Sand Storm is a utility Swiss Army Knife:
- Direct Damage: 215% to all enemies. Slightly better than the base, but still not a nuker.
- Sand Damage: 815 damage over 5 turns. This is a massive amount of total damage (163 per turn). While 5 turns is a long time, in a prolonged battle, this pressure adds up significantly.
- Mana Generation Buff: +33% Mana Generation for 5 turns. This is the star of the show. A 33% boost is enormous, effectively making your Average heroes Fast and your Slow heroes manageable.
- Cleanse ALL: Unlike the base version, he cleanses all allies. This is crucial. A cleanser who also speeds up your team is a rare and valuable combination.
By the Numbers
- Mana Speed: Slow. This is his Achilles' heel. However, once he fires, the +33% mana gen helps him (and his team) recharge much faster for the second round.
- Damage Potential: 215% AoE is soft, but the 815 Sand Damage is guaranteed (unless cleansed). That's a potential 4000+ damage spread across an enemy team over 5 turns.
- Mana Breakpoints: With the +33% buff active, your team becomes speed demons. An Average speed hero (10 tiles) drops to ~7.5 tiles, essentially becoming Fast.
Family Bonus, Passives, Aether Power & Unique Abilities
He retains the Sand Empire family bonus but swaps his class to Paladin.
Family Bonus

Monthly Event - Sand Empire
- Bonus for 1/2/3 Unique Heroes:
- +5%/+10%/+20% defense
- The members of this family have additional perks in the Sand Empire event.
The 10%/20% defense bonus and healing efficiency boost make him even tankier. If paired with another Sand hero (like Roc or Rana), he becomes incredibly hard to kill with tile damage.
Passives
No passives found
Like the base version, he lacks modern "start with mana" passives. However, the costume bonus itself provides stat boosts and a small mana gen bump (5%), which helps tuning his speed.
Aether Power

Boosted Regen
At the start of each battle, this Hero regenerates 300 boosted health over 6 turns. Boosted health can exceed max HP.
Boosted Regen: This aether power gives him healing over time at the start of the battle. This is excellent for a tank, helping him survive the initial tile dump before his healers are ready.
Legacy & Modern Relevance
- Historical Context: When released, C-Yunan was seen as a massive upgrade. The shift from "selfish tank" to "support tank" made him viable in wars again.
- Power Creep: While his stats have held up better than the base version, "Slow" speed is a tough sell in 2026. Heroes like Xandrella or Telonius do more at faster speeds.
- Modern Viability Verdict: Niche / Rush Specialist. He is still a top-tier pick for Rush Attack wars and tournaments. Outside of that, he is too slow for standard defense but can be a fun offensive tool if you can protect him until he fires.
Costume & Costume Bonus
This is a no-contest. The Costume is strictly better.
- Base vs. Costume: Base Yunan offers healing reduction (-50%). Costume Yunan offers Cleanse + Mana Gen. In almost every scenario, enabling your own team (Cleanse/Mana) is more valuable than debuffing the enemy's healing (which can be cleansed).
- Costume Bonus: The permanent stat boost from the costume is essential even if you wanted to use the base version (which you shouldn't).
Emblem Path Analysis
As a Paladin, he gets access to defense bonuses.
The Lifeguard (Defense/Health)
- Path: Defense > Health > Attack
- Pros: Maximizes his Paladin class talent (Defense buff on damage) and keeps him alive to fire his crucial support skill.
- Cons: Lowers his sand damage slightly.
The Sand Blaster (Attack/Defense)
- Path: Attack > Defense > Health
- Pros: Increases the Sand DoT significantly. Since DoT is his main damage source, this makes him more threatening.
- Cons: Risky for a Slow hero.
Final Recommendation
The Defense/Health path is safer. His job is to fire the Mana Buff and Cleanse. The damage is a bonus.
Strengths
- Support Trinity: Cleanse + Mana Speed + DoT is a fantastic combination of effects in one skill.
- Rush War Beast: In Very Fast modes, his +33% mana gen makes his team nearly unstoppable once the engine starts.
- High Stat Ceiling: With Limit Breaks and the costume bonus, his stats can still compete with modern heroes.
Weaknesses
- Speed: Slow mana is his biggest liability. He can be killed or mana-controlled before he ever moves.
- DoT Duration: 5 turns is a long time. It gives the enemy plenty of chances to cleanse the Sand damage.
- Passive Play: He doesn't do much until he fires. He has no "on damage received" passives to punish enemies for hitting him.
Best Game Modes
- Rush Attack (Wars/Tournaments): He is S-Tier here. The mana speed buff makes your Very Fast team loop their specials endlessly.
- Map/Tower Events: The mana gen buff is incredible for long boss fights, helping your healers and snipers fire more often.
- Depth Teams: Good for war depth when you need a cleanser who isn't a healer.
Advanced Strategy & Team Compositions
Costumed Yunan is an "Engine" hero. Once he fires, your team shifts into high gear.
Sample Team Ideas
- The Green Wall: Alberich - Yunan - Heimdall. A revive/overheal/mana boost nightmare that just won't die.
- The Mana Loop: Yunan + Xnolphod + Ludwig. If you get this trio going, you will never run out of mana.
Counters & Anti-Synergies
- Buff Dispellers: His Mana Gen buff is dispellable. A simple Sabina or Caedmon ruins his setup.
- Ailment Immunity: Heroes like Garnet or Vanda prevent his Sand DoT from landing.
- Mana Control: He is helpless against Hel, Proteus, or Silence effects.
Advice for New Players
Costumed Yunan is a great pull. Even if he is slow, a 5-star cleanser is invaluable for a growing roster. Level him up and use him as your tank or flank.
Advice for Veterans
He is a situational tool. Don't use him on your main defense team (unless it's Rush week). However, for Rush Wars, he is worth keeping and even Limit Breaking if you lack premier Rush tanks.
Community Corner: Hot Takes & History
- "Facepalm. Guess they did not learn it from useless Azlar... 5 turns is more a nerf than a buff." - A community reaction to the extended duration of the DoT.
- "For me, the 'highlight' of the buff is the increased number of turns for the mana gen (from 3 to 5 turns)." - A more optimistic take on the support aspect.
- "I barely used him anyway... I have Arco, and he is anchored at tank." - The reality of power creep.
Final Thoughts
Costumed Yunan proves that you can teach an old dog (or sand king) new tricks. While he isn't the terror of the arena he once was, his transition to a support role has aged gracefully. He provides a unique mix of cleansing and acceleration that few Nature heroes can match. He might be wearing a goofy lifeguard outfit, but in Rush Attack, heβs the one deciding who sinks and who swims.
Final Verdict: A solid, situational hero who excels in Rush modes and PvE, but struggles to keep pace in standard competitive play.

(Note: Base version included for reference, but stick to the lifeguard.)

Bobo Review: The Titan Slayer Who Needs a Stat Boost
"Bobo might look like a nightmare-fuel clown, but for years he was the dream hero for Titan scores. Does his massive -60% defense down still hold up against modern power creep? We break down the stats, the skills, and why he might still deserve a spot on your roster (if you have the potions)."

Aodhan: The Fiery Fiend Feeder
"Part wizard, part candle, all trouble. Aodhan brings the heat with self-healing stacks and those annoying Wisp Fiends that just won't go away. But in a world of super-creeps, is this slow-starting Slayer still hot stuff or just blowing smoke? We break down why he's the king of Bloody Battle."
