Edd: The "Malosi-Lite" Thug of the 3-Star Arena
Overview
Meet Edd, the 3-star Dark hero from the League of Villains event. Released back in early 2021, Edd was introduced as part of the ragtag group of baddies meant to challenge the classic heroes. While the 5-star villains like Dark Lord stole the spotlight, Edd quietly offered a very specific, tactical utility: Buff Blocking.
In the world of 3-star tournaments, where heroes like Gunnar and Faiez dominate with powerful buffs, having a Fast-speed counter is invaluable. Think of him as the "Malosi" of the Rare tierβhe hits one target and tells them to sit down and be quiet. He is a base hero with no costume currently available, so this review focuses entirely on his original thug life form.

Hero Art & Visuals
Let's address the elephant in the room: Edd's posture. The community has affectionately (and sometimes horrifiedly) pointed out that he looks like his neck was snapped by Steven Seagal. His expression is a mix of crazed determination and confusion, fitting for a skill named "Crazed Lunge." He captures the "low-level henchman" vibe perfectlyβhe's not the mastermind; he's the guy the mastermind sends to get punched first. It's goofy, it's weird, and it's honestly part of his charm.

Hero Stats
Base Stats (No Emblems)
| Level | Attack | Defense | Health | πͺPower |
|---|---|---|---|---|
3/50 | 526 | 450 | 723 | 476 |
3/55lb1 | 596 | 510 | 819 | 531 |
3/60lb2 | 737 | 630 | 1012 | 641 |
When Edd was released, his stats were considered quite high for a 3-star hero.
- Attack (526): Still respectable. It sits comfortably above classic snipers like Balthazar (472) but falls short of modern powerhouses like Buster or Dawn who push higher limits.
- Defense (450) & Health (723): Average. He isn't made of glass, but he certainly isn't a tank.
In the current meta, his stats have aged surprisingly well. While he isn't a stat monster compared to the latest Construct or Astral Elf heroes, his attack stat is high enough to make his snipe sting, especially when fully emblemed and Limit Broken.
Special Skill: Crazed Lunge

Crazed Lunge
- Deal 335% damage to the target.
- The target is immune to new status effect buffs for 3 turns.
Analysis: The skill has seen a buff since his release, moving from 290% to a solid 335% damage.
- The Damage: 335% at Fast speed is standard sniper territory. It's enough to severely dent or kill a squishy enemy, especially if you bring a defense down hero.
- The Effect: This is where Edd shines. Making a target immune to new buffs for 3 turns is a game-changer in specific scenarios.
- Stop Faiez from applying block ailments or defense up.
- Stop Gunnar from casting Spirit Link (if you hit him first, though usually, you use this to stop the recipient of a buff, but Gunnar buffs everyone). Correction: Buff immunity on a target prevents that target from receiving buffs. If you hit Gunnar, he can still cast his skill, and his allies will still get the buffs (unless you hit them too). Edd is best used to neutralize a specific threat that relies on self-buffs or to tag a key enemy before a team-wide buffer fires.
- Prevent Costume Hawkmoon from applying her attack buff and HoT to a specific target.
It is a surgical tool. Unlike a dispeller (Tyrum) who removes buffs after they happen, Edd prevents them from happening in the first place.
By the Numbers
- Mana Speed: Fast. He needs 8 tiles to charge. With a +20 Emblem bonus (Ranger usually gives mana node? No, Ranger gives defense/crit), he doesn't easily hit the 7-tile breakpoint (requires heavy mana troops not available in 3-star tourneys). So, expect 8 tiles or 3 ghosted tiles + 2 matches.
- Damage Potential:
- Base Attack: 526
- With Emblems + LB1: ~600+
- Damage Factor: 335%
- Rough Estimate: He hits harder than a non-costumed Balthazar and rivals many modern snipers. He won't one-shot a tank, but he will finish off a wing.
Family Bonus, Passives, Aether Power & Unique Abilities
Family Bonus

Challenge Festival II - Villains
- Bonus for 1/2/3 Heroes:
- +10%/+30%/+50% chance to heal 15%/35%/70% of dealt damage when attacking an enemy.
- +40%/+80%/+120% more damage dealt against Minions and Mega Minions.
- The members of this family have additional perks in the Challenge Festival events.
The Villain Family bonus is interesting but inconsistent. It gives a chance to heal or deal extra damage when attacking.
- Solo: It's a nice little "maybe" that triggers occasionally.
- Stacked: If you run him with other Villains (like Skrekok or Maeve), the chance increases.
- Verdict: Don't build your team around this, but appreciate the occasional self-heal or extra poke.
Aether Power

Attack Up
At the start of each battle, this Hero gets 20% attack for 6 turns
Attack Up is the standard offensive Aether power. Itβs boring but effective for a sniper. It essentially ensures that his special skill keeps hitting relevant numbers as enemy stats inflate.
Legacy & Modern Relevance
- Historical Context: Upon release, Edd was seen as a niche toy. Players debated if he was worth leveling over Tyrum. The general consensus was "Yes for Rush, maybe for Buff Booster."
- Power Creep: While his stats aren't top 10 anymore, his mechanic is timeless. Buff Immunity is a status effect that completely shuts down certain heroes.
- Modern Viability: Edd remains Viable in 3-star tournaments. He is not a "must-have" for every battle, but in Buff Booster tournaments, he is arguably better than a dispeller because he denies the enemy the buff stack entirely. In Rush Attack, he can permanently lock down a tank if you keep firing him.
Emblem Path Analysis
Edd is a Ranger, which grants the Pierce talent (chance to bypass defensive buffs). This synergizes awkwardly with his skill (if he blocks defense buffs, he doesn't need to bypass them), BUT it helps immensely against heroes who start with buffs or if you miss your timing.
The Assassin (Attack Path)
- Path: Focus on Attack nodes, then Defense/Health.
- Pros: Maximizes his sniping potential. Rangers have good attack nodes.
- Cons: He remains somewhat squishy.
- Why: Edd's job is to kill or neutralize. If he hits like a wet noodle, his buff block might not matter because the enemy kills him first.
Final Recommendation
Go full Attack. A sniper needs to snipe.
Strengths
- Fast Mana Control: Can quickly shut down key buffers before they fire.
- Unique Utility: One of the few 3-star sources of Buff Immunity.
- Ranger Class: Pierce talent helps damage push through active defensive buffs (like Kai's).
- Solid Damage: 335% at Fast speed is reliable.
Weaknesses
- Single Target: Only affects one enemy. Against team-wide buffers (Gunnar), you only stop one person from getting the buff.
- Stats: Average bulk makes him vulnerable to slash attacks.
- Competition: Competes with C-Tyrum (who dispels and cleanses) and C-Balthazar (raw damage).
Best Game Modes
- Buff Booster Tournaments: His best mode. Preventing buffs means preventing the enemy from gaining the tournament attack boost.
- Bloody Battle: Healing is disabled, so damage and damage prevention are king. He hits hard enough to be relevant.
- Event Bosses: Useful against bosses who rely on annoying buffs (Counter-attack, Defense Up) if you time it right.
Advanced Strategy & Team Compositions
The "Purple Pain" Mono
- Team: Treevil - Edd - C.Tyrum - Maeve - C.Balthazar
- Strategy: Treevil slows them down, Edd picks off the cleanser or buffer, Maeve drops defense, and the snipers clean up.
The "Buff Denial" Duo
- Pair with: Kvasir (Minion prevention) or Noril.
- Why: Kvasir stops minions, Edd stops buffs. Between the two of them, the enemy team can't do anything but slash attack.
Counters & Anti-Synergies
- Cleanse: Heroes like Faiez or Helo can cleanse Edd's ailment. If they fire after Edd, your work is undone.
- Monks: Heroes with "Resist Ailment" capabilities can shrug off his Crazed Lunge effect.
Advice for New Players
If you are new, C-Tyrum is generally more versatile because Dispel + Cleanse is universally useful. However, Edd is a fantastic secondary project. Keep him, max him, but maybe prioritize your healers and dispellers first.
Advice for Veterans
You likely have a roster full of 3-star monsters. Edd is a "luxury" pick for tournaments. If you hate fighting Faiez or Grevle tanks in Rush, Edd offers a way to neuter them early (if you get the tiles). Heβs worth a roster slot, but maybe not 2LB unless you are a tournament fanatic.
Community Corner: Hot Takes & History
- The "Broken Neck" Theory: One player famously asked, "Itβs like his neck has been broken by Steven Seagal." The art has been a meme since day one.
- The Name: Players joked, "Edd should have had EDD (Elemental Defense Down)!" A missed opportunity for a pun, indeed.
- The Malosi Comparison: "I kind of like to think of him as a 3-star Malosi in a slightly tweaked way." This remains the most accurate description of his playstyle.
Final Thoughts
Edd is the definition of a "toolbox hero." You won't use him every day, and he won't win you the match with brute force alone. But when you're staring down a team that relies heavily on a specific buff sequence, Edd is the wrench you throw into their gears. He's ugly, he's hunched, and he's incredibly effective at being a nuisance.
Verdict: A solid Keeper for Tournament enthusiasts. Level him up, aim for the throat (or the neck?), and enjoy the silence of a buff-less enemy.
