Edwin: The Butler Did It (With Poisoned Tea)
Overview
Edwin is a 5-star legendary Nature (Green) hero from the Morlovia (Halloween) family, originally released in 2023. As the family's "Cunning Butler," he fits the archetype of a fast, disruptive attacker designed to punish defensive teams. While his costume has since been released (giving him a significant facelift), this review focuses on his base form. Does the original butler still have the skills to pay the bills, or has he been retired to the dusty attic of the game's history? Spoiler: He's still got a few tricks, but he's definitely showing his age.

Hero Art & Visuals
Edwinβs design is a delightful mix of creepy and comical. He looks like every suspicious butler from a murder mystery movieβhunched over, wicked grin, serving a "polite" cup of tea while hiding a massive knife behind his back. The green and dark blue color palette screams "poison" and "Halloween," fitting perfectly with his Hemlock Tea special skill. Itβs characterful and tells a story instantly: do not drink the tea.

Hero Stats
Base Stats (No Costume Bonus)
| Level | Attack | Defense | Health | πͺPower |
|---|---|---|---|---|
4/80 | 922 | 889 | 1693 | 933 |
4/85lb1 | 994 | 959 | 1824 | 996 |
4/90lb2 | 1137 | 1097 | 2087 | 1122 |
Stat Analysis: Let's be blunt: Edwin's base stats are undeniably outdated in the 2026 meta. With an LB2 power of 1122 and attack hovering around 1137, he is significantly behind modern heavy hitters who now regularly push 1500-1600+ attack. His defense and health are also well below the current survival threshold. Without his costume bonus or the costume itself, Base Edwin is incredibly fragile and lacks the punch he once had. He is now considered a low-stat hero compared to the latest releases.
Special Skill: Hemlock Tea

Hemlock Tea
- Deals 250% damage to all enemies.
- The attack bypasses defensive buffs. (This includes counterattacks.)
- All enemies can't get their status ailments cleansed or reallocated by Special Skills for 3 turns.
Analysis:Hemlock Tea is a straightforward but tactically potent skill.
- Speed: Running at Fast speed is his saving grace. He can charge in 7 tiles (with mana troops/emblems), allowing him to fire before many enemies.
- Damage: 250% to all enemies was great in 2023. Today? It's merely a "softening" blow. It won't wipe teams, but it chips away at them.
- Bypass: This is the jewel in his crown. Bypassing defensive buffs (including counterattacks, defense up, and shields) ensures his damageβhowever modestβactually lands. He doesn't care about Elena's riposte or Krampus's defense buff.
- Cleanse Block: Preventing enemies from cleansing ailments for 3 turns is a fantastic utility. It pairs beautifully with heavy DoT (Damage over Time) heroes or defense-down dealers, locking those ailments in place.
By the Numbers
Let's break down the butler's performance:
- Mana Speed: Fast. Requires 8 tiles. With the 20th emblem node (4% mana) or his family bonus (up to 9%), he can easily reach the 7-tile breakpoint (requires +34% mana total, or less with specific troop combos).
- Damage Potential (LB2): ~1137 Attack * 2.50 = ~2,842 raw damage per target (before defense calculation).
- Comparison: Modern fast AoE hitters often deal 300%+ with 1600+ attack stats, resulting in raw damage values of 4,800+. Edwin deals roughly 60% of the damage of a modern top-tier hitter.
- Passives: The Steal Buff passive has a 65% chance to trigger. If successful, it removes a potent buff (like Taunt or Dodge) from one enemy. If it fails (or no buffs exist), he deals an extra 150% damage to all (Raw: ~1,705). This secondary hit is actually quite significant if it triggers, effectively bumping his total damage to 400% on a "clean" board.
Family Bonus, Passives, Aether Power & Unique Abilities
The Morlovia family brings some classic Halloween tricks to the table, primarily focused on speed and disruption.
Family Bonus

Monthly Event - Morlovia
- Bonus for 1/2/3 Unique Heroes:
- +3%/+6%/+9% mana generation
- The members of this family have additional perks in the Halloween event.
Analysis: The mana generation bonus (up to +9% for 3 heroes) is excellent. It allows you to use lower-level mana troops to hit speed breakpoints. If you pair him with other Morlovia heroes (like Alucard or Matilda), the entire team speeds up significantly.
Passives
Passive Skills
Steal BuffWhen this character casts their Special Skill, they have a 65% chance to steal the newest dispellable buff from a random enemy that has buffs. If no enemy has buffs, deals 150% damage to all enemies.
Analysis: The Steal Buff passive is unreliable (65% on one target) but can be clutch. The alternativeβ150% extra damageβis often preferred for pure damage output. Unfortunately, you can't control which one happens.
Aether Power

Attack Up
At the start of each battle, this Hero gets 20% attack for 6 turns
Analysis:Attack Up is the standard offensive aether power. It gives him a nice damage boost at the start of the battle, helping his initial hit sting a bit more, but it doesn't offer the survival utility of "Damage Reduction" or "Revive" that he desperately needs given his low stats.
Legacy & Modern Relevance
- Historical Context: Upon release, Edwin was praised as a solid, fast hit-all hero who solved the "Counterattack" problem. He was a staple in many green stacks for his reliability.
- Power Creep Analysis: Power creep has hit him hard. His damage percentages are low, and his stats are paper-thin by modern standards. The introduction of his costume (and newer heroes like Turundh) has made his base form obsolete for high-level play.
- Modern Viability Verdict: Bench / Niche. Base Edwin is no longer viable in top-tier wars or raids. He simply dies too fast and hits too soft. However, for mid-game players, he remains a useful tool for War Cleanups (where enemies are already damaged) or specific Buff-Heavy matchups where his bypass is mandatory.
Costume & Costume Bonus
- The Upgrade: The Costume (Mafia theme) is a massive upgrade. It changes his class to Cleric (Mana Shield!), boosts his damage to 265%, and most importantly, adds a massive Bleed DoT (716 damage over 4 turns) to all enemies.
- Comparison: Base Edwin deals ~250% damage and stops cleansing. Costume Edwin deals ~265% damage, stops cleansing, AND adds ~700 bleed damage.
- Recommendation: There is almost no reason to use Base Edwin if you have the Costume. The Costume does everything the base does, but better, harder, and with better stats. The only exception might be if you desperately need the Paladin class defense boost for survival, but even then, the stat difference usually favors the costume.
Emblem Path Analysis
If you are using Base Edwin, you are likely using him for damage or as a utility filler.
The Aggressive Butler (Attack Path)
- Path: Attack > Defense > Health
- Pros: Maximizes his special skill damage and the 150% passive hit.
- Cons: He remains extremely squishy and will likely die to a stiff breeze (or a slash attack).
The Survivalist (Defense Path)
- Path: Defense > Health > Attack
- Pros: Keeps him alive longer to actually fire his special skill. Uses the Paladin class talent to boost defense further.
- Cons: His damage becomes negligible, turning him into a pure utility hero (just there for the cleanse block).
Final Recommendation
For most players still using Base Edwin, the Defense/Health path is safer. Dead heroes deal zero damage, and his base stats are so low that he needs every point of survivability he can get to survive long enough to cast Hemlock Tea.
Strengths
- Bypass Defensive Buffs: Ignores Counterattack, Defense Up, and Elemental Shields. Reliable damage.
- Cleanse Block: Prevents enemies from washing away poisons, burns, and defense breaks.
- Fast Speed: Charges quickly (7-8 tiles), making him easy to use in stacks.
- Family Mana Bonus: Helps the whole team charge faster if you use other Halloween heroes.
Weaknesses
- Outdated Stats: Extremely low defense and HP compared to 2025/2026 heroes.
- Low Damage Ceiling: 250% is no longer a "finisher" move; it's a "scratcher" move.
- Passive RNG: You cannot rely on him to steal a specific buff when you need it.
- Overshadowed: His own costume and dozens of other green heroes do his job better now.
Best Game Modes
- War Cleanups: His fast speed allows him to finish off weakened teams before they can heal.
- Buff Booster Tournaments: His fast speed and ability to steal buffs (or punish lack of them) make him decent here.
- Farming: Fast hit-all animation is okay for quick map stages.
Advanced Strategy & Team Compositions
Base Edwin works best as a "Setup" or "Utility" hero rather than a primary damage dealer.
Sample Team Ideas
- The "Rot" Squad (DoT Stack):
- Team: Alucard (Core) - Edwin (Block Cleanse) - Matilda (DoT Enhance)
- Strategy: Edwin fires to block cleansing. Matilda fires to enhance ailments. Alucard destroys minions/heals. The enemy rots to death, unable to cleanse.
- The Green Stack:
- Team: Evelyn/Almur (EDD) - Edwin - Heavy Hitter (e.g., Turundh)
- Strategy: Use Elemental Defense Down first. Edwin softens them up and bypasses shields. The heavy hitter finishes them off.
Counters & Anti-Synergies
- Counters: Monks/Clerics (who resist the cleanse block), Ailment Immunity heroes (like Hathor or Aron) who prevent the block from landing in the first place.
- Anti-Synergy: Do not pair him with heroes who overwrite his cleanse block with a weaker ailment, though this is rare.
Advice for New Players
If you pulled Edwin and he's your first 5-star Green hero, congratulations! He is fantastic for early and mid-game content. Focus on leveling him to 3/70 or 4/80 if you have the mats. He will carry you through map stages and early raids easily. Do not prioritize Limit Breaking (LB1/LB2) him unless you also have his costume.
Advice for Veterans
Base Edwin is a relic. If you don't have the costume, he likely sits on your bench. He is not worth Alpha Aethers or even regular Aethers in the current economy. Keep him for the "Museum" or for very specific Soul Exchange fodder if you have dupes. If you have the costume, level the costume immediately and forget the base form exists.
Community Corner: Hot Takes & History
- "HATE the art, LOVE the card." - A common sentiment upon his release; players loved his kit but found his "creepy butler" vibe polarizing.
- "Knife! Knife! Edwin's got a knife!" - Old Cynic's memorable reaction to the artwork.
- "Archie is still better utility wise." - Even at release, players debated if he was better than Archie. History has shown Archie held up slightly better due to utility, but Edwin's costume has given him the last laugh.
Final Thoughts
Edwin is a hero who served his purpose well in 2023 but has struggled to keep up with the inflation of stats and skills. Without his costume, he is a "C-Tier" heroβuseful in a pinch, but largely retired. He serves a mean cup of tea, but unfortunately, most modern heroes have built up an immunity to his poison.
Verdict: Bench (unless you have the Costume).
