Jana: The Moon's Double-Edged Blade (And Taunt's Worst Nightmare)
Overview
Jana is a 5-star Holy Wizard from the Carnival of Gods event. Released back in mid-2023, she arrived as a unique "double sniper" designed to wreak havoc on two separate targets. While she doesn't carry a costume yet, her base form offers a very specific set of toolsβnamely Defense Down and Mana Generation Downβpackaged in a way that makes her a tactical nuke against certain defensive setups. She's the kind of guest at the masquerade ball who hits you with a bottle of champagne, then turns around and hits your friend with the cork.

Hero Art & Visuals
Janaβs design is a striking mix of Venetian carnival elegance and celestial power. She wears a split-face maskβone side sun-gold, the other moon-silverβreflecting her dual-nature skill. Itβs a sophisticated look that screams "mystery," though the giant floating moon staff suggests sheβs not exactly trying to blend in. Itβs definitely a step up from the "angry guy with axe" aesthetic we see so often.

Hero Stats
Base Stats (No Emblems)
| Level | Attack | Defense | Health | πͺPower |
|---|---|---|---|---|
4/80 | 920 | 873 | 1718 | 931 |
4/85lb1 | 992 | 941 | 1851 | 994 |
4/90lb2 | 1135 | 1076 | 2118 | 1120 |
Stat Analysis & Modern Benchmarks Here is the hard truth: Jana is showing her age. With a base Power of 931 and stats hovering around 920 Attack and 873 Defense, she is significantly behind the modern curve.
- Modern Benchmark: New heroes are debuting with ~1320 Attack and ~1280 Defense before Limit Breaks.
- Jana's Reality: Her Level 90 (LB2) stats (1135 Attack / 1076 Defense) are actually lower than the Level 80 stats of heroes released in late 2025. This means she is squishy by modern standards and her damage output, while good mechanically, suffers from the lower base Attack stat. You absolutely need to Limit Break and emblem her heavily if you want her to survive a hit from a modern sniper.
Special Skill: The Two Sides of the Moon

The Two Sides of the Moon
- Deals 470% damage to the target.
- The target gets -44% defense for 4 turns.
- Deals 470% damage to a random different enemy. This effect targets the same enemy as the first hit if there are no other valid targets.
- The target of the second hit gets -44% mana generation for 4 turns.
Skill Analysis Jana's skill is a "One-Two Punch" with a twist.
- Hit 1: 470% damage + -44% Defense.
- Hit 2: 470% damage to a random different enemy + -44% Mana Gen.
The "Taunt" Loophole: The text says "random different enemy," but if there is no other valid targetβspecifically when a Taunt hero (like Ludwig, Phorcys, or Shacklebolt) is activeβboth hits land on the Taunter. This is Jana's superpower. Because the first hit applies Defense Down, the second hit lands on a target with -44% defense. This results in a massive single-target nuke (940% total multiplier with defense down scaling) that can delete almost any Taunt hero instantly.
The Downside: In normal raid scenarios without Taunt, the "random" second target can be frustrating. You might kill a key threat with the first hit, but the second hit might target a corner healer you didn't want to touch yet, or worse, a Fighter who revives.
By the Numbers
Let's break down the math behind the moon magic.
- Mana Speed: Average (10 tiles). With a Lv 23 Mana Troop or Lv 11 Magic/Styx Troop + Class bonus, she can reach 9 tiles.
- Damage Potential (Modern Context):
- Base Damage: 470% is a solid sniper multiplier.
- Effective Output: Against a modern hero with 1200 Defense, Jana's 920 Attack (base) struggles. However, against a Taunter, the effective multiplier is closer to 1300-1400% because of the Defense Down applied mid-combo.
- Defense Down: -44% is a high value for Holy heroes. It rivals White Rabbit and is superior to standard 34% breaks.
- Mana Slow: -44% Mana Generation is significant. It essentially turns "Fast" enemies into "Very Slow" ones for 4 turns, buying you critical time.
Family Bonus, Passives, Aether Power & Unique Abilities
The Masquerade family offers some unique survivability tools that help mitigate her aging stats.
Family Bonus

Challenge - Masquerade
- Masquerade characters summon a Mask Minion for themselves at the start of the battle. THe more Masquerade characters there are in the same team, the better the Mask Minion is:
- 1 family member: This character summons a Mask Minion with 8% health and 8% attack inherited from the character.
- Additional skill with 2 family members: Mask Minion gives its owner +7% attack while the owner has a Mask Minion. This effect can't be dispelled.
- Additional skill with 3 family members: Mask Minion gives its owner immunity to all status ailments while the owner has a Mask Minion. This effect can't be dispelled.
Analysis: Starting the battle with a Mask Minion gives her a small meat shield immediately. Itβs not huge HP, but it prevents "first hit" snipes from taking a chunk of her actual health. The Attack boost (for 2+ members) is negligible in mixed teams.
Passives
Passive Skills
Cleanse on Minion DeathThis character is cleansed of status ailments when Minion owned by them is destroyed.
Analysis:
- Cleanse on Minion Death: This is niche but useful. If an enemy AoE kills her mask minion, she automatically cleanses ailments (like Burn or Poison).
- Resist Defense Ailments: This is huge. She cannot receive Defense Down. This makes her surprisingly durable against heroes who rely on softening targets up before the kill (like Costumed Tiburtus or many modern defense-down openers).
Aether Power

Attack Up
At the start of each battle, this Hero gets 20% attack for 6 turns
Analysis: Attack Up is exactly what she needs. Since her base stats are low, a raw percentage boost to Attack helps her damage output stay relevant.
Legacy & Modern Relevance
- Historical Context: Upon release, Jana was considered "Good, not Broken." She lived in the shadow of her family mate Jove, who was defining the meta at the time. However, players quickly realized her value as a "Ludwig Killer."
- Power Creep: The stat gap is undeniably large. She dies quickly to modern slash attacks and special skills. Her damage, while mechanically strong, hits like a wet noodle against 1600+ Defense enemies if she doesn't have Attack buffs.
- Modern Viability Verdict:
- PvP: Niche Attacker. She is a "silver bullet" against Taunt tanks. If you see a Taunt hero, bring Jana. Otherwise, modern snipes like Turundh or even heavy hitters like Jove outclass her.
- Titans: Excellent. -44% Defense Down in Yellow is rare and valuable for hitting Dark Titans. She is a staple for many Titan teams.
Costume & Costume Bonus
As of this review, Jana does not have a costume. If one is released, we expect it to drastically update her stats to modern standards.
Emblem Path Analysis
Jana is a Wizard.
The Survivor (Recommended for Defense/General)
- Path: Defense > Health > Attack
- Pros: Keeps her alive. Her stats are so far behind that she needs every point of bulk to survive a single hit in War.
- Cons: Lowers her snipe damage.
The Glass Cannon (Recommended for Titans/Offense)
- Path: Attack > Defense > Health
- Pros: Maximizes her damage potential and tile damage for Titans.
- Cons: She will die if a butterfly lands on her shoulder.
Final Recommendation
Go Attack/Defense (The Glass Cannon) if you use her primarily for Titans and attacking Taunt teams (where you plan to kill them before they kill you). If she is on your Defense team (not recommended), go full bulk.
Strengths
- Taunt Destroyer: Hits Taunt heroes twice, with the second hit dealing massive damage due to defense down.
- Titan Utility: High Defense Down (-44%) in the Holy element is premium.
- Stat Immunity: Innate resistance to Defense Down keeps her sturdier than her stats suggest.
- Mana Control: -44% Mana Generation can shut down a dangerous flank.
Weaknesses
- Outdated Stats: Severely low base stats compared to 2025/2026 heroes.
- Random Targeting: The second hit is unpredictable (unless against Taunt), making it unreliable for surgical strikes.
- Average Speed: In a Fast/Very Fast meta, 10 tiles can feel like an eternity.
Best Game Modes
- Titans: A-Tier. Defense down is essential for high scores.
- War Attack: B-Tier. Specific counter to Taunt tanks.
- Rush Attack: A-Tier. At Very Fast speed, her double mana control/defense down is oppressive.
Advanced Strategy & Team Compositions
Jana works best when she can be protected or accelerated.
Sample Team Ideas
- The Holy Trinity (Titan/War): C. Vivica (Def Down) + Jana (Stacking/Different Def Down) + Jove (Damage). Note: Ensure you don't overwrite superior Def Downs.
- The "Mana Freeze" Team: Jana + Proteus/Hel + Onatel. Combine Janaβs mana generation debuff with mana stops or steals to ensure the enemy never fires.
Counters & Anti-Synergies
- Monks/Clerics: Can resist her Defense Down or Mana ailment.
- Dodge Heroes: If she misses the first hit, the whole combo falls apart.
- Cleanse: Her ailments are cleansable.
Advice for New Players
If you pull Jana, you have a gem. She will be your main yellow hitter for a long time. Prioritize leveling her, as her "double hit" mechanic can clear map stages easily by taking out two monsters at once.
Advice for Veterans
She is a utility pick. Don't LB2 her unless you use her daily for Titans or have a vendetta against Ludwig/Phorcys teams. Her stats are too low for top 100 alliance wars, but she remains a key piece for Mythic Titans and depth in War hits.
Community Corner: Hot Takes & History
- "If thereβs one enemy left, does she attack that one twice? Yes, just like Zekena and Kullervo." β This confirmation was key to her value discovery.
- "I absolutely love her... If iβm stuck anywhere, out comes Jana and itβs game over." β Early adopter enthusiasm.
- "Good against Titans. Especially since the second hit will benefit from those -44% Def in their case." β The community quickly identified her PvE potential.
Final Thoughts
Jana is a masquerade dancer who knows exactly when to strike. She isn't the brute force berserker that modern heroes are, and her stats are definitely wearing last season's fashion. But her ability to dismantle Taunt heroes and crack open Titans keeps her on the VIP list. She's not the main event anymore, but the party isn't the same without her.
Verdict: Keep and Level for Titans/Taunt Counter.
