Costume Lemminkäinen: The "Fading" Champion Returns
Overview
Lemminkäinen has returned from the river of Tuonela, this time sporting his "Swan" costume. Released in July 2025, this costume attempts to breathe new life into one of the Kalevala event's most underwhelming 4-stars. With a shift to the Fighter class and updated stats, the question remains: is this enough to make him usable, or is this truly just his swan song?
This review focuses on the Costume version (Swan).

Hero Art & Visuals
The costume swaps his rugged barbarian look for something a bit more... refined? He looks noble, determined, and perhaps a bit tragic, fitting the "Fading Champion" moniker. The art is solid, capturing the mythological essence of the Kalevala legends. It’s a definite upgrade in terms of "vibes," making him look less like a generic warrior and more like a hero with a destiny.

Hero Stats
Base Stats (No Emblems)
| Level | Attack | Defense | Health | 💪Power |
|---|---|---|---|---|
4/70 | 671 | 632 | 1502 | 707 |
4/75lb1 | 730 | 687 | 1632 | 761 |
4/80lb2 | 846 | 796 | 1892 | 868 |
The Costume Boost: The costume pushes his stats to 671 Attack / 632 Defense / 1502 Health.
- The Good: This is a noticeable improvement over his base stats (646/616).
- The Bad: Even with this boost, he is still behind the curve. Compare him to a modern 4-star like Hotspin (816 Attack) or Breca (794 Attack). The gap is smaller, but it's still a canyon. He is playable now, but he's not a stat monster.
Special Skill: Sword of Swan Song

Sword of Swan Song
- Deals 300% damage to the target and minor damage to nearby enemies.
- The target and nearby enemies receive 176 Burn Damage over 4 turns. Against Ice characters, this status effect becomes uncleansable and lasts 2 turns longer.
The Sword of Swan Song is a tweaked version of his original skill. Let's look at the trade-offs:
- Damage: Increased from 285% -> 300%. This is a nice bump. hitting 300% on a target at Average speed is decent for a 4-star.
- Burn: Decreased from 196 -> 176 over 4 turns. This is a nerf. You lose about 20 damage total (5 damage per turn).
- The Net Result: He hits slightly harder upfront but ticks for slightly less. Given how fast the meta moves, front-loading damage is usually preferred, so this is a net positive, albeit a small one. The "Anti-Ice" uncleansable burn mechanic remains, which is still niche.
By the Numbers
- Mana Speed: Average. With the costume bonus (and potential mana troops), you can make him slightly faster, but he's not breaking any speed records.
- Revive Potential: As a Fighter, he has a ~30% chance to revive with 1 HP. Combined with his passive (recover health/mana on low HP), this synergy is the real reason to use the costume.
Family Bonus, Passives, Aether Power & Unique Abilities
This is where the Costume gets interesting.
Family Bonus

Monthly Event - Kalevala
- Bonus for 1/2/3 Unique Heroes:
- Receive -10%/-25%/-40% less damage from the Special Skills of the stronger element.
- The members of this family have additional perks in the Kalevala event.
The Kalevala bonus reduces damage from Ice specials. Again, great for a tank, weird for an attacker you shouldn't bring against Blue tanks.
Passives
Passive Skills
Power of SisuWhen this character starts a turn with low health for the first time during a battle, they recover 15% health and receive 15% mana.
Power of Sisu: This passive is the star of the show.
- Scenario: Lemminkäinen gets hit and drops to low HP.
- Passive Triggers: He heals 15% and gains 15% mana.
- Fighter Talent: If he dies, he might Revive.
- Loop: If he revives, he is at "low health," potentially setting him up to trigger the passive again (if he hasn't already used it once per battle) or just fire his skill immediately with the mana gain. This makes him an annoying cockroach to kill.
Aether Power

Attack Up
At the start of each battle, this Hero gets 20% attack for 6 turns
Attack Up: A simple, boring, but effective boost. It helps his direct damage and his burn damage. It's fine, but less exciting than the Base version's Dodge.
Legacy & Modern Relevance
- Power Creep Analysis: The costume brings him from "Obsolete" to "usable in 4-star tournaments." He is no longer a liability, but he is certainly not a carry.
- Modern Viability: Low to Mid. He has a place in Buff Booster (Fighter revive is a buff) or Bloody Battle (Burn is good). In open wars, he is still outclassed by faster, harder-hitting reds.
Costume & Costume Bonus
Base vs. Costume:
- Winner: Costume.
- Why? The Fighter Class. The ability to revive is game-changing for close matches. The 300% hit is also better for finishing off targets than the 285% hit, even with slightly less burn. The stats are strictly better. There is almost no reason to use the base version unless you desperately need the Dodge Aether Power or Barbarian bleed.
Emblem Path Analysis
With the Fighter class, we can lean into his survivability or his damage.
The Undying Flame (Attack/Revive)
- Path: Attack > Defense > Health
- Pros: Maximizes his 300% hit and burn. Fighters naturally revive, so making him hit harder when he is alive is usually the play.
- Cons: He is still squishy.
The Cockroach (Defense/Revive)
- Path: Defense > Health > Attack
- Pros: Makes him extremely annoying to kill. He stays alive to burn things and absorb hits.
- Cons: His damage output becomes negligible.
Final Recommendation
Go Attack. A 4-star damage dealer who doesn't deal damage is useless, no matter how many times they revive.
Strengths
- Synergy: Fighter Revive + Sisu Passive (Heal/Mana) is a fantastic combo.
- Uncleansable Burn: Still useful against pesky Blue bosses in events.
- Improved Stats: He isn't made of paper anymore (maybe cardboard now).
Weaknesses
- Average Speed: Still his biggest holding back.
- Minor Splash Damage: He is effectively a sniper who tickles the neighbors.
- Competition: He competes with C.Colen (AOE nuke), C.Kelile (Fast Burn), and modern beasts.
Best Game Modes
- 4-Star Tournaments: Especially Rush (Average -> Fast) or Bloody Battle.
- Tower Events: His Sisu passive helps sustain him through floors.
Advanced Strategy & Team Compositions
Use him as a "finisher" or a secondary threat.
Sample Team Ideas
- The "Revive & Burn" Squad:
- Tyr - Lemminkäinen (C) - Boldtusk
- Why: A team of Fighters who refuse to die and keep burning the enemy.
Counters & Anti-Synergies
- Silence/Mana Control: If he can't fire, he's just a guy in a swan costume.
- Minion Blockers: Doesn't affect him directly, but prevents him from gaining pseudo-HP.
Advice for New Players
The Costume makes him a solid 4-star for your early game. Level him! The Fighter emblems are valuable, but he is a good placeholder until you get Season 4/5/Construct heroes.
Advice for Veterans
If you are drowning in Fighter emblems and have a soft spot for Kalevala, sure, max him. But realistically, he's staying on the bench. He's not better than your Toon boldtusk or C2 Colen.
Community Corner: Hot Takes & History
- "I ate him He has no place in any decent roster." - A sentiment that even the costume struggles to fight.
- "A costume would help Lemminkäinen I guess. Look at the first special..." - Well, the costume is here. Did it help? A bit. But probably not enough for this player.
- "Depends on your roster depth but for me I ate them both." - The harsh reality of E&P rosters in 2026.
Final Thoughts
Costume Lemminkäinen is a definitive upgrade over his base form. The Fighter class breathes some utility into his kit, and the stat bump is welcome. However, "better than garbage" doesn't necessarily mean "good." He is a competent 4-star hero now, but in an era of gods and monsters, he's just a guy with a sword and a dream.
Verdict: C-Tier. A playable, average hero who can be annoying to face but rarely fearsome.
