Miss Ethel: The Bovine Bazooka Who Moos For A Fight

Overview

Miss Ethel arrived in the Springvale 2024 event, bringing a refreshing (and slightly absurd) design to the roster. She is a 5-Star Legendary Ice hero from the Springvale family, and yes, she is an anthropomorphic cow with a giant mace. While the game takes itself seriously with eldritch horrors and grimdark goblins, Ethel is here to remind us that sometimes you just need to dress a cow in blue armor and have her smash things. She is a straightforward damage dealer who rewards you for hitting healthy enemies.

Hero Art & Visuals

The art is undeniably memorable. We've gone from cute bunnies (Killhare) and majestic birds (Chick Jr... okay, maybe not majestic) to a full-on Minotaur-esque warrior. But unlike the fearsome Minotaur of Greek myth, Ethel has a certain "pastoral yet violent" charm. She wields a massive mace that looks like it could flatten a castle gate, yet she maintains a braided hairstyle that suggests she might have a shift at the dairy farm later. It's ridiculous, and we love it.

When Miss Ethel was released in early 2024, her stats (1009 Attack, 955 Defense, 1816 HP) were considered top-tier. However, fast forward to 2026, and the goalposts have moved significantly. Modern heroes like Devyani or the Constructs are sporting 1300+ Attack and 2200+ HP out of the box.

  • Attack: 1009 is now considered "Average" for a legendary. It's serviceable but lacks the punch of the latest releases.
  • Defense/HP: Decent bulk, but she will feel squishy compared to the 3000+ HP behemoths running around in the current meta.
  • Power: At 999 base power, she is clearly a generation behind the 1260+ power creep wave.

Mana Speed
Average
  • Deals 600% damage to the target.
  • If the target had more then 40% health before receiving damage targets another enemy who had over 40% health before receiving any damage from this Special Skill. If none of the other enemies have 40% health targets a random enemy. The damage is reduced on each consecutive hits. Each enemy can only be hit once.
  • The caster gets -15% mana generation for 3 turns. This effect can't be cleansed.

Analysis: This skill is a "Win More" button. Dealing 600% damage to a single target is massive. For context, even modern snipers hover around the 500-600% range. The kicker is the Chain Mechanic:

  1. She hits the first target.
  2. If that target has >40% HP, she seeks another target with >40% HP.
  3. She hits them (with reduced damage).
  4. If that target has >40% HP, she finds a third...

This means Miss Ethel is an incredible opener. If you fire her when the enemy team is fresh, she can chain through the entire lineup, dealing devastating damage. However, she is terrible at "cleaning up" low-health enemies, as the chain will break immediately.

The Downside: The -15% mana generation ailment on herself is the classic Springvale "drawback." Unlike the defense down on Killhare or the attack drop on Master Lepus, mana slow is painful because it delays her next volley. And it cannot be cleansed, so you just have to live with it.

By the Numbers

  • Mana Speed: Average.
  • Damage Potential:
    • First Hit: 1009 Attack Γ— 600% = 6,054 Raw Damage Value.
    • Second Hit (est. ~50% reduction): ~3,027 Raw Damage Value.
    • Third Hit: ~1,513 Raw Damage Value.
    • Total Sweep: If she hits 5 enemies (decreasing damage), she deals substantial total team damage, likely exceeding 12,000 raw value spread out.
  • Comparison: A modern sniper like Turundh deals 525% damage (~6900 value due to higher stats) plus a second 525% hit. Ethel's 600% holds up in percentage, but her lower base attack stat means she hits softer than the numbers suggest compared to 2026 heroes.

Family Bonus, Passives, Aether Power & Unique Abilities

Family Bonus

Monthly Event - Springvale
Family Bonus

Monthly Event - Springvale

  • Bonus for 2/3 Unique Heroes:
  • +10%/+20% attack
  • The members of this family have additional perks in the Springvale Festival event.

The Springvale family bonus provides an Attack Boost (10%/20% for 2/3 heroes). This is a simple, effective stat stick. It helps mitigate her aging stats if you run her with another Easter hero (like a costumed Killhare or Archie).

Passives

No passives found

None. This is the biggest indicator of her age. Modern heroes come with 2-3 passives (Resistances, Mana Boosts, "Start battle with X"). Ethel has zero. She is a raw stat-and-skill hero living in a passive-heavy world.

Aether Power

Attack Up
Aether Power

Attack Up

At the start of each battle, this Hero gets 20% attack for 6 turns

In battles with multiple waves, the effect is refreshed at the beginning of each wave.

Attack Up. A solid choice for a pure damage dealer. It gives her a fighting chance to dent modern defense stats.

Legacy & Modern Relevance

  • Historical Context: Upon release, Ethel was often compared to Anne (from Coveant/Pirates). Anne was the premier chain attacker, but Ethel offered a higher initial hit (600% vs 550%) and a seemingly easier condition (Health % vs Status Effects). She was a beast in 2024 wars.
  • Power Creep Analysis: The lack of passives and the "Average" speed hurt her viability in high-end play. Modern chain attackers (like the new Construct heroes or Super Elementals) often do similar damage at Fast speed or with massive secondary effects (Wither, Growth).
  • Modern Viability Verdict: Niche / Mid-Game. She is no longer a top-tier defense hero. In offense, she is still viable in War Cleanups (where you might face a full HP team that just has high defense) or Tournaments. She shines in PvE where enemies often have huge HP pools, allowing her to chain consistently.

Emblem Path Analysis

Ethel is a Fighter, which is excellent. The chance to Revive can win games, especially since she has no defensive passives to keep her alive.

  • Path: Attack > Defense > Health
  • Pros: Maximizes that juicy 600% multiplier. Every point of attack you add scales beautifully with her high percentage.
  • Cons: She remains somewhat squishy.

The Beefy Shield

  • Path: Defense > Health > Attack
  • Pros: Keeps her alive longer to fire a second time (despite the mana slow).
  • Cons: Wastes her primary asset: big damage numbers.

Final Recommendation

Go full Attack. Her job is to nuke someone. If she dies after firing once, she has done her job (hopefully taking a key enemy with her).

Strengths

  • Massive First Hit: 600% damage is still a "delete button" for many fragile heroes (healers/rogues).
  • Chain Potential: Can devastate a team that relies on overheal or high starting HP.
  • Fighter Class: The revive talent is arguably the best in the game for clutch moments.
  • Family Bonus: Easy to pair with other common Springvale heroes for a free stat boost.

Weaknesses

  • Average Speed: In a Fast/Very Fast meta, Average often feels like "Dead before firing."
  • Self-Nerf: -15% Mana Generation effectively makes her "Slow" speed for her second charge.
  • Condition Dependent: If enemies are below 40% HP, she becomes a single-target hitter with no secondary effects.
  • No Passives: Lacks the "modern kit" of immunities or start-of-battle effects.

Best Game Modes

  • Rush Attack (Wars/Tournaments): Mitigates her Average speed. Her chain hit can be devastating when fired early.
  • Bloody Battle: As a Fighter who deals raw damage, she excels here where healing is banned.
  • PvE / Map Stages: Monsters usually have full HP, allowing her to chain freely and clear waves efficiently.

Advanced Strategy & Team Compositions

Sample Team Ideas

  1. The "Softener" Combo: Pair her with a Defense Down hero who hits all enemies (like Costume Tiburtus or Morel). Fire the def-down first. Crucially, ensure the def-down hero doesn't deal enough damage to drop enemies below 40% HP (unlikely with just one hit), so Ethel can still chain but hits much harder.
  2. The Mana Crutch: Use her with mana boosters like Ludwig or Xnolphod. They can help overcome her self-inflicted mana ailment.
  3. The Family Stack: Killhare (C) + Ethel. Killhare lowers her own defense, Ethel lowers her own mana. It's a risky "glass cannon" duo, but the family bonus helps them hit harder.

Counters & Anti-Synergies

  • Minion/Fiend Spam: She has no way to deal with them.
  • Taunt: A Taunt hero will absorb her first hit. Since the Taunt hero usually takes damage, if they drop below 40% HP (or if the taunt forces the chain to stop), her potential is wasted.
  • Mana Controllers: Since she slows her own mana, getting hit by a mana cut (like Li Xiu or Chao) effectively paralyzes her.

Advice for New Players

If you pull Miss Ethel early in your E&P journey, she is a fantastic carry. A 600% sniper will one-shot almost any boss in Season 1-3. Prioritize leveling her, but be aware she will struggle to charge up a second time in long fights.

Advice for Veterans

She is a depth hero. Don't strip emblems off your top-tier 2025 heroes for her. However, she is an excellent choice for your 4th or 5th War team, especially against "passive" defense teams that don't pressure you quickly, allowing her Average speed to charge. She is not worth an Alpha Aether (LB2) unless you simply love the art or have an excess of resources.

Community Corner: Hot Takes & History

When released, players affectionately dubbed her the "Cowzooka."

  • User "Geert1986" noted: "She seems like Anne with better stats... Still very worth leveling up imho."
  • Another player: "MOOOOOOOOOOO!!! This is how she looks limit broken once. I like how she hits."
  • The Skeptic: "In 6 months she will be as useless as Finley or Anne... powercreep goes a bit too fast." (This prediction proved mostly true for top-tier play, but she remains usable elsewhere).

Final Thoughts

Miss Ethel is a hero who knows what she is: a cow with a mace who hits very, very hard. While she lacks the sophisticated passives and utility of the modern era, raw damage never truly goes out of styleβ€”it just finds a lower tier to dominate in. If you need a blue sniper who can occasionally wipe a team, she's your girl. Just don't ask her to hurry up; she moves at her own grazing pace.

Verdict: A fun, hard-hitting relic of 2024. Level her for depth, but don't expect her to lead your defense team to the Top 100.
