Para: The Rodent Medic of Kalevala

Overview

Para is a 3-star Rare Dark hero from the Kalevala event. Released back in the summer of 2022, this peculiar "Household Familiar" (a polite way of saying "giant magical rat with a butter churn") fills a very specific and often under-served niche: the Purple 3-Star Healer.

While he doesn't bring the flashy damage of modern Construct or Glass heroes, his combination of healing and attack reduction makes him a sturdy support option. If you've been playing for a while, you know that finding a reliable healer in the Dark element for 3-star tournaments can sometimes feel like trying to find a piece of cheese in a maze... blindfolded.

Para

Hero Art & Visuals

Let's address the elephantβ€”or rather, the rodentβ€”in the room. Para is a bipedal rat wearing a cowl, carrying what looks like an oversized wooden butter churn on his back. It's weird, it's rustic, and it fits the Kalevala folklore theme perfectly. The art style is distinct, leaning into the slightly gritty, mythological aesthetic of the event. Compared to the shiny, polished armor of the "Glass" costumes or the high-tech "Constructs," Para looks like he just crawled out of a storybook (and possibly your pantry).

Stat Analysis: Let's be real: Para's base stats are showing their age. With a Limit Broken (LB2) power of 649, he lags significantly behind modern monsters like Ironvein (727 Power) or Jax (727 Power). His attack and defense stats are modest by 2026 standards. However, his 1238 HP (at LB2) is surprisingly robust, keeping him competitive in terms of survivability. He won't tank hits like a modern Paladin, but he has enough meat on his bones to fire his special at least once.

Skill Analysis: "Familiar Witchcraft" is a bread-and-butter support skill.

  • Healing (32%): This is a solid chunk of health for a 3-star hero. It's not a flashy "boosted health" mechanic, but it gets the job done.
  • Attack Debuff (-24%): This is the unsung hero of his kit. Lowering enemy attack by nearly a quarter significantly increases your team's survivability, effectively acting as a "virtual" defense buff.
  • The Anti-Holy Twist: Against Holy (Yellow) enemies, the attack down becomes uncleansable and lasts 6 turns. This is huge in 3-star tournaments where cleansers are rare and Holy hitters (like Pixie or Poppy) are common.

By the Numbers

  • Mana Speed: Average (10 tiles).
    • With +20% Mana Bonus (Rush Attack): Very Fast (6.5 tiles).
  • Healing Output: 32% of Max HP. For a teammate with 1200 HP, that's roughly 384 HP. It scales well with the high HP pools of Limit Broken 3-stars.
  • Effective Health (vs Holy): The -24% attack debuff means an incoming hit that would normally deal 500 damage deals roughly 380 damage instead. Over 6 turns, this damage mitigation adds up to hundreds of saved HP.

Monthly Event - Kalevala

  • Bonus for 1/2/3 Unique Heroes:
  • Receive -10%/-25%/-40% less damage from the Special Skills of the stronger element.
  • The members of this family have additional perks in the Kalevala event.

Analysis: Reducing damage from Holy special skills is a nice bonus, especially since you'll often bring Para against Yellow tanks or flanks. It stacks with his innate resistance to being one-shot.

Passives

Inherent Abilities

Passive Skills

  • Power of Sisu
When this character starts a turn with low health for the first time during a battle, they recover 15% health and receive 15% mana.

Analysis: This is the star of the show. The "Crisis Boost" gives Para 15% HP and 15% Mana the first time he drops to low health. This can be a lifesaver, often pushing his mana bar from "almost there" to "charged" right when you need a miracle heal. It acts as a safety net that many older heroes lack.

Aether Power

Defense Up
Aether Power

Defense Up

At the start of each battle, this Hero gets 20% defense for 6 turns.

In battles with multiple waves, the effect is refreshed at the beginning of each wave.

Analysis: Defense Up is a practical, if boring, Aether Power. It keeps him alive longer to cast his heal. It doesn't have the game-changing impact of "Regen" or "Special Boost," but for a support hero, staying alive is job number one.

Legacy & Modern Relevance

  • Historical Context: Upon release, Para was a breath of fresh air. Dark 3-star healers were practically non-existent outside of Aderyn, and Para offered a pure healing alternative.
  • Power Creep: The stat creep is real. Modern 3-stars hit harder and have more complex passives. Para's 32% heal is standard, but he lacks the secondary effects (like cleanse or dispell) that define top-tier supports today.
  • Modern Viability: Para is Niche but Viable. He is no longer a "must-have" for every team, but in Rush Attack tournaments or events where you are restricted to Purple, he is an excellent safety valve. He shines when you need to outlast the opponent rather than nuke them.

Costume & Costume Bonus

As of this review, Para does not have a costume. He is relying entirely on his base kit and the kindness of his Kalevala family bonus.

Emblem Path Analysis

  • Path: Defense > Health > Attack
  • Pros: Maximizes his staying power. As a healer, his attack stat is irrelevant; he needs to survive to heal the team.
  • Cons: His tile damage will be negligible.

The Balanced Rogue

  • Path: Health > Defense > Attack
  • Pros: Rogue class relies on Dodge. High HP maximizes the value of the 32% heal (if he heals himself) and survives DoT.
  • Cons: Slightly less defense against direct sniping.

Final Recommendation

Go full Defense/Health. Para is a healer; keep him alive. The Rogue talent (Evade) works best when he can survive the hits that don't get dodged.

Strengths

  • Reliable Healing: 32% is a solid baseline for 3-star content.
  • Strong Debuff: -24% Attack cripples incoming damage, especially valuable against hard-hitting snipers.
  • Anti-Holy Specialist: Uncleansable debuff ruins Holy teams.
  • Clutch Passive: Mana gain on low health can turn the tide of a match.
  • Rarity of Role: Purple healers at the 3-star level are scarce.

Weaknesses

  • Average Speed: Without Rush rules, 10 tiles can feel too slow for a healer in the fast-paced 3-star meta.
  • Outdated Stats: Low defense/attack makes him squishy against modern "Glass" cannons.
  • No Cleanse/Dispel: He offers pure sustain/mitigation but no utility to handle status ailments or buffs.

Best Game Modes

  • Rush Attack Tournaments: Being Average speed means he becomes Very Fast. He is a top-tier tank or flank here.
  • Buff Booster Tournaments: Not for the buff (he gives none), but for the survivability to keep your buffers alive.
  • Alliance Quests / Tower Events: When 3-star restrictions apply, having a healer in every element is crucial.

Advanced Strategy & Team Compositions

Sample Team Ideas

  • The "Purple Wall" (Rush Defense):
    • Treevil - Para - Maeve - Tyrum (C) - Bjorn
    • Why: Treevil slows them down, Para keeps them healthy and lowers enemy attack further. A nightmare to chew through.
  • The "Sustain" Attack Team:
    • Para - Tyrum (C) - Balthazar - Beezlebub - Noril
    • Why: Para provides the sustain while the fast snipers pick off enemies one by one.

Counters & Anti-Synergies

  • Counters: Kvasir (Minions block damage/reduce effectiveness), Poppy (Fast sniper can kill before he heals), Waqas (Reduces healing).
  • Anti-Synergy: Don't pair with heroes that overwrite attack debuffs with weaker ones (though rare in 3-star).

Advice for New Players

If you pull Para, level him. Having a healer for your Dark stack is invaluable for completing Rare quests and early map stages. He is cheap to level and will serve you well until you build a deep 4-star roster.

Advice for Veterans

Para is a "depth" hero. You likely won't use him in regular raids, but for 3-Star Rush Tournaments, he is a solid backup if you don't have multiple Treevils or the latest OP event heroes. Don't prioritize Limit Breaking him unless you are serious about competing in 3-star tournaments.

Community Corner: Hot Takes & History

When Para was released, players were relieved to have another Purple healing option.

  • "Finally, 3-star dark healer on my roster." - A relieved player on the forums.
  • "Consider Aderyn is thus far the only other 3-star Purple healer... Para is quite a catch."
  • The community correctly identified that the "Low Health" passive is essentially the Season 3 (Valhalla) passive but slightly better because it gives mana and health.
  • Some confusion existed initially about his skill text, but it was clarified that the "Uncleansable" part applies specifically against Holy enemies.

Final Thoughts

Para isn't going to break the game or rewrite the meta. He is a humble, hardworking rat with a bucket. But in the specific ecosystem of 3-star tournaments, he fills a necessary role with competence. He keeps your team alive, makes the enemy hit like wet noodles, and occasionally clutches a win with his passive mana boost.

Verdict: A solid B-tier hero that jumps to A-tier in Rush Attack. Keep one, but maybe don't invite him to dinnerβ€”he brings his own rats.
