Uwe, The Fluffy Nightmare: 850% Damage & The Softskin Wall
Overview
Meet Uwe, the self-proclaimed "Fluffy Gargoyle." Released in May 2024 as part of the Return to Sanctuary event, this 5-star Dark (Purple) hero brings a mix of adorable aesthetics and terrifying damage potential. He is a Slow mana sniper who specializes in obliterating a single target and potentially chaining through the rest of the enemy teamβif the conditions are right. While he lacks a costume, his base form alone caused quite a stir upon release due to his massive damage multiplier. Heβs the kind of hero you want to pet, right before he hits you with a magically charged rock.

Hero Art & Visuals
Uwe is... confusing, in the best way possible. He looks like what would happen if a gargoyle and a grape-flavored plushie had a baby. He's covered in vibrant violet fur with red tiger-like stripes, sporting two black horns and claws that definitely aren't made of cotton. It's a stark contrast to the stony, serious demeanor of the original Gargoyles like Gaillard or Penolite. He looks like he wandered out of a Monsters, Inc. audition and straight into a battlefield.

Hero Stats
Base Stats (No Emblems)
| Level | Attack | Defense | Health | πͺPower |
|---|---|---|---|---|
4/80 | 1077 | 1060 | 1792 | 1049 |
4/85lb1 | 1161 | 1143 | 1931 | 1121 |
4/90lb2 | 1328 | 1308 | 2209 | 1265 |
When Uwe was released, his 1049 Power was impressive. However, in the current landscape of Empires & Puzzles, power creep moves fast. Compared to modern heroes hitting 1260+ Power with stats in the 1300s for Attack and Defense, Uwe is starting to show his age.
- Attack (1077): Still respectable but no longer elite.
- Defense (1060) & Health (1792): These are now considered average to low for a 5-star hero.
While he isn't "paper thin," he relies heavily on his passive abilities to survive against modern damage dealers.
Special Skill: Chain Blast Strike

Chain Blast Strike
- Deals 850% damage to the target.
- If the target has less than 50% health before receiving damage, targets another enemy who had less than 50% health before receiving any damage from this Special Skill. If none of the other enemies have 50% health, targets a random enemy. The damage is reduced on each consecutive hit. Each enemy can only be hit once.
- If the hit enemies use their Special Skill in the next 3 turns, they get 725 poison damage for 5 turns. This effect is uncleansable. (Status effects are added at the end of a Special Skill. Status effects will not be added if this status effects is removed during a Special Skill.)
This skill is the definition of "high risk, high reward."
- The 850% Hammer: Hitting a single target for 850% damage is catastrophic. Even with older stats, this will delete or severely maim almost any hero without defensive buffs.
- The Chain Condition: The chain only activates if the target has less than 50% health. This makes Uwe a "finisher." You can't open the fight with him (unless you just want to kill one guy). You need to soften them up first.
- The Punishment: The secondary effect inflicts uncleansable Poison damage if the enemy uses their special skill. This is a great deterrent, forcing enemies to choose between holding their fire or taking massive DoT.
By the Numbers
Let's break down the math behind the fluff:
- Mana Speed: Slow. He needs 12 tiles to charge. This is his biggest drawback in standard play.
- Damage Potential:
- Base Hit: 1077 Attack x 850% = ~9,154 raw damage value.
- Comparison: A modern "Fast" sniper with 1320 Attack dealing 525% creates ~6,930 raw damage.
- Verdict: Uwe hits 32% harder than a modern fast sniper, justifying his Slow speed. If he connects, it hurts.
- Poison Damage: 725 over 5 turns is 145 per turn. It's not game-ending on its own, but combined with the 850% hit, it ensures that even if the target survives with 1 HP, they probably won't last long.
Family Bonus, Passives, Aether Power & Unique Abilities
The Gargoyle family is famous for being annoying, and Uwe is no exception.
Family Bonus

Challenge - Gargoyle
- Bonus for 1/2/3/ Unique Heroes:
- Immune to Poison damage / Immune to Poison and Burn damage / Immune to Poison, Burn and Water damage
- The members of this family have additional perks in the Return to Sanctuary event.
Immunity to Poison (and Burn/Water with more members) is a niche but welcome bonus. It completely nullifies heroes like the classic Sand Empire family or modern poison heavy hitters.
Passives
Passive Skills
- Gargoyle's SoftskinEvery time this Gargoyle casts a Special Skill, their Softskin activates. The next 5 times they receive damage, it is reduced by -90%. They are also immune to all status ailments, mana reductions and Insanity. This effect can't be dispelled.
This is the star of the show.
- Softskin (Slow Speed Version): Because Uwe is Slow, his Softskin lasts for 5 turns (or 5 hits).
- Effect: Reduces damage by 90% and grants immunity to status ailments and mana reduction.
- Impact: Once Uwe fires, he becomes a stone fortress. For 5 hits, he is virtually invincible. This allows him to survive long enough to potentially fire again, creating a loop of invulnerability.
Aether Power

Regen
At the start of each battle, this Hero regenerates 420 health over 6 turns.
Regen fits him well. Since Softskin reduces incoming damage to tickles, the regeneration can effectively top him back up to full health, making him even harder to remove from the board.
Legacy & Modern Relevance
- Historical Context: Upon release, players freaked out about the "850% damage" number. It was seen as the next step in power creep.
- Power Creep Analysis: While his raw damage multiplier is still top-tier, his base stats have fallen behind significantly (a ~200 TP deficit compared to the latest releases). His Slow speed is also a major liability in a meta dominated by Very Fast/Fast heroes who can kill him before he charges.
- Modern Viability Verdict: Uwe is Viable, but he has been relegated to a specialist role. He is a monster in Rush Attack tournaments and wars, where his speed penalty is negated, and his Softskin makes him an obnoxious tank. In standard raid formations, he is often too slow to be effective unless paired with mana boosters like Ludwig or Xnolphod.
Costume & Costume Bonus
Uwe currently does not have a costume. Given the trajectory of the game, a costume would likely boost his stats to modern standards and perhaps tweak the chain condition to be more forgiving. Until then, we work with the base fur.
Emblem Path Analysis
Uwe exists to delete people. Don't overthink it.
The "One-Shot Wonder" (Recommended)
- Path: Attack > Defense > Health
- Pros: Maximizes the 850% multiplier. Every point of attack you add scales massively with that percentage. It ensures that when he hits, the target dies, preventing them from healing or countering.
- Cons: slightly less bulk, but Softskin compensates for this.
The "Sturdy Gargoyle"
- Path: Defense > Health > Attack
- Pros: Keeps him alive longer to charge his Slow mana.
- Cons: Wastes his primary asset (the massive nuke). 850% of a lower attack stat is just sad.
Final Recommendation
For most players, the Attack path is recommended because if you're bringing a Slow sniper, they better guarantee a kill when they finally fire.
Strengths
- Nuke Potential: 850% damage is one of the highest single-target multipliers in the game.
- Survivability: The 5-turn Softskin makes him incredibly tanky after he fires.
- Clean-Up Crew: If the enemy team is damaged (<50% HP), he can chain and wipe the entire board.
- Ailment Immunity: While Softskin is active, he ignores defense down, silence, and mana cuts.
Weaknesses
- Speed: Slow mana is painful. He can die before firing a single shot.
- Conditional Chain: If enemies are above 50% health, he's just a sniper. A very strong sniper, but just one hit.
- Stat Deficit: Lower stats mean he takes more damage from tiles and slash attacks before his Softskin activates.
Best Game Modes
- Rush Attack (Wars/Tournaments): This is his home. Set him as Tank or Flank. He charges in 6 tiles, nukes someone, and puts up a 5-hit invincibility shield.
- PvE / Events: Great for boss waves where you can whittle them down and then use Uwe to finish them off.
- Mid-Level Raids: He can still dominate teams that lack the firepower to kill him quickly.
Advanced Strategy & Team Compositions
You need to build around his slowness and his "finisher" mechanic.
Sample Team Ideas
- The "Mana Battery" Team:
- Ludwig/Xnolphod + Uwe: Place Uwe next to Ludwig. Ludwigβs taunt protects Uwe, and the mana boost charges him repeatedly. Uweβs Softskin then protects him when Taunt wears off.
- The "Soften & Smash" Team:
- Hit-All Hero (e.g., Quintin, fast AoE) + Uwe: Use a faster hero to drop enemy health below 50%. Uwe follows up to trigger the chain and wipe the board.
Counters & Anti-Synergies
- Counters:
- Mana Controllers: Hel, Proteus, or Silence heroes can stop him from ever firing and activating Softskin.
- Healers: A well-timed heal can bring enemies back above 50% HP, stopping Uwe's chain dead in its tracks.
- Anti-Synergy:
- Other Slow Heroes: Don't run a full team of Slow heroes (outside of Rush) or you'll never get a turn.
Advice for New Players
If you pulled Uwe early, congrats! He will carry you through map stages and lower-level raids easily. Put him in the corner of your defense team or use him to snipe the most dangerous boss. Focus on keeping him alive with healers until he charges.
Advice for Veterans
Uwe is a niche tool for your Rush Attack roster. Do not strip emblems from your modern meta heroes for him unless you are struggling specifically in Rush Wars. He is not worth Alpha Aethers (LB2) purely for stats, but the opening mana from the Aether power can help him fire faster in standard modes if you are desperate.
Community Corner: Hot Takes & History
The community reaction to Uwe was a mix of shock and skepticism.
- "850% is practically a guaranteed kill no matter what." - Many players felt the multiplier was overkill.
- "Slow speed is meaningless when you pair this hero next to a Nautica..." - Pointing out that synergy can overcome his weakness.
- "Fenrir 2.0" - A common comparison due to the "finish off low HP enemies" mechanic.
- "Fluffy Gargoyle" - His nickname stuck immediately because, well, look at him.
Final Thoughts
Uwe is a hero that asks a simple question: "Can you keep me alive for 12 tiles?" If the answer is yes, he rewards you by deleting an enemy hero from existence. While his stats are gathering dust compared to the shiny new toys of 2026, his 850% hammer and Softskin shield ensure he still has a seat at the tableβusually the one reserved for Rush Attack feasts.
Verdict: A formidable Rush specialist and a fun, fluffy nuke, but not a universal solution for the modern meta.
