Hachiko: The Samurai Shiba Who Crits Harder Than He Bites

Overview

Hachiko is a 5-star Legendary Holy hero from the Mighty Pets family, originally released in November 2022. He represents the "good boy" archetypeβ€”loyal, fierce, and undeniably cute. Back in his prime, he was a menace that combined offensive pressure with defensive punishment. Today, he fits the role of a niche support hero, primarily used for his rare Critical Chance buff which is a game-changer against Titans. While he may not fetch victories in top-tier raids like he used to, he's still a very good boy.

Hachiko

Hero Art & Visuals

The artwork features a Shiba Inu dressed in traditional samurai attire, wielding a katana. It’s a delightful blend of "Doge" meme culture and serious warrior aesthetics. The determination in his eyes says "I will protect my master," while the fluffiness says "Please scratch behind my ears after the battle." It stands out as one of the more lighthearted yet well-executed designs in the game, leaning into the whimsical nature of the Mighty Pets event.

When we look at Hachiko's stats (877 Attack / 807 Defense / 1559 Health), the age really shows. Modern heavy hitters from late 2025 and 2026 boast stats in the realm of 1300+ Attack and 2200+ Health.

  • Attack: Significantly below the modern average. His damage output relies heavily on his special skill percentage and emblems.
  • Defense & Health: His bulk is now considered "paper thin" by modern standards. He will struggle to survive a single hit from current meta snipers or AoE nukers without Limit Breaking or heavy defensive emblem investment.

Mana Speed
Average
  • Deals 270% damage to all enemies.
  • All allies counterattack with 80% of the damage received for 4 turns. The counterattack damage increases by +15% each turn, up to 125%.
  • All allies get +50% critical chance for 4 turns.

Analysis: Hachiko's special skill is a "Swiss Army Knife" of abilities, but it suffers from being a jack-of-all-trades in a specialized meta.

  • 270% Damage to All: In 2022, this was respectable. In 2026, it's a "tickle." It won't wipe teams, but it can soften them up.
  • Counterattack (Riposte): The 80% counterattack that scales up to 125% is excellent if your team survives the hit. Since it applies to all allies, it creates a "don't touch me" zone. However, modern heroes often bypass counterattacks or simply hit so hard that your heroes die before the reflected damage matters.
  • +50% Critical Chance: This is the crown jewel. A 50% crit chance for all allies is massive for tile damage. This singular effect keeps him relevant in Titan fights and Mythic Titans, where tile damage is king.

By the Numbers

  • Mana Speed: Average. He needs 10 tiles to charge. With a Level 23 Mana Troop (or high-level Magic/Styx troop), you can shave this down, but he will never be "Fast."
  • Damage Potential: 270% of 877 Attack is roughly ~2,367 raw damage total spread across 5 enemies (before defense reduction). A modern hero like Jwala does 350% off 1324 Attack (~4,634 raw). Hachiko deals about half the damage of a modern AoE hitter.
  • Crit Value: On a Titan, critical tiles deal double damage. A 50% chance essentially increases your average board damage by ~50%. Over 4 turns, this adds up to tens of thousands of extra damage.

Family Bonus, Passives, Aether Power & Unique Abilities

The Mighty Pets family brings some interesting mechanics that reward specific team compositions.

Family Bonus

Challenge Festival II - Pets
Family Bonus

Challenge Festival II - Pets

  • Bonus for 1/2/3 Heroes:
  • Fiends for this Hero absorb -2%/-3%/-4% less max health.
  • Fiends for this Hero inherit -2%/-3%/-4% less attack.
  • Minions for this Hero inherit +2%/+3%/+4% extra attack.
  • Minions for this Hero inherit +2%/+3%/+4% extra health.
  • The members of this family have additional perks in the Challenge Festival events.

The bonus improves Minion stats and weakens enemy Fiends. It's situational. Unless you are running a full "zoo" team with other pets or minion summoners, you won't notice this much.

Passives

Passive Icon
Inherent Abilities

Passive Skills

  • Friend of the Familiars
When a Minion is summoned to any ally, this character gains 5% health and 5% mana. This effect can activate only once per turn.
  • Wrath of Pets
When a Fiend is summoned to any enemy, this character deals 85% damage to all enemies. This effect can activate only once per turn.
  • Friend of the Familiars: This is excellent. If you pair Hachiko with a fast minion summoner (like Sparklight or Waterpipe), he gains 5% Mana and HP every turn. This effectively makes him faster than Average speed.
  • Wrath of Pets: A nice counter to fiend summoners. Dealing 85% damage to all enemies when a fiend lands is a decent "get off my lawn" slap, but rarely decisive.

Aether Power

Regen
Aether Power

Regen

At the start of each battle, this Hero regenerates 420 health over 6 turns.

In battles with multiple waves, the effect is refreshed at the beginning of each wave.

Regen: At the start of battle, he regenerates health for 6 turns. This helps mitigate his lower HP stat slightly, but it's one of the weaker Aether Powers compared to Bulwark or Revive.

Legacy & Modern Relevance

  • Historical Context: Upon release, Hachiko was a top-tier flank. His counterattack deterred AoE mages, and his crit buff made slashing attacks deadly. He was a staple in many defenses.
  • Power Creep: The stat gap is undeniable. His 800 defense is a liability. Heroes now hit for 600%+ or bypass buffs entirely. His direct damage is negligible against modern defense stats.
  • Modern Viability Verdict: Niche / Titan Specialist. He is no longer viable in top 100 PvP Defense. However, he remains a Titan S-Tier hero for yellow teams due to the Crit buff. He is also usable in Rush Wars if you lack modern tanks, as the counterattack can still punish bad boards.

Emblem Path Analysis

Hachiko is a Monk, which gives him a chance to resist ailments. This is great for ensuring his buffs go off.

  • Path: Attack > Health > Defense
  • Pros: Maximizes tile damage against Titans and increases the bite of his special skill and counterattacks.
  • Cons: Makes him very squishy in raids.
  • Why: You are likely using him for Titans. Maximize that attack stat.

The Good Boy Protector

  • Path: Defense > Health > Attack
  • Pros: Keeps him alive long enough to fire his skill in wars or raids.
  • Cons: His attack becomes even less threatening.
  • Why: If you use him in Rush War defense, he needs to survive the first volley.

Final Recommendation

For most players still using Hachiko, the Titan Slayer (Attack) path is the way to go. His main job in 2026 is hitting purple Titans very hard.

Strengths

  • Critical Chance Buff: One of the few heroes to provide a massive +50% Crit to all allies. Huge for tile damage.
  • Full Team Counterattack: Punishes AoE hitters effectively.
  • Passive Mana Gain: Synergizes well with minion summoners to charge faster.
  • Cleanse Resistance: Monk class helps him resist silences or mana blocks.

Weaknesses

  • Outdated Stats: Extremely fragile by modern standards.
  • Low Special Damage: 270% damage barely scratches modern heroes with 2200+ HP.
  • Dispel Vulnerability: His entire kit (Counterattack + Crit) is buff-based. One dispel (like Tyrum Glass or Amelia) ruins his day.
  • Average Speed: Too slow for the impact he provides in standard PvP.

Best Game Modes

  • Titans: (5/5) His best role. Crit buff + high attack stat (with emblems) = massive scores.
  • Mythic Titan: (5/5) Essential for the yellow team.
  • Rush Attack Wars/Tournaments: (4/5) Can still be annoying if he fires early, forcing enemies to kill themselves on riposte.
  • Map Stages: (4/5) Great for auto-farming; crit tiles clear waves fast.

Advanced Strategy & Team Compositions

Hachiko shines when you lean into his passives and his specific buffs.

Sample Team Ideas

  • The Yellow Titan Team:
    • Miki/Wu Kong (Damage Boost) + Guardian Jackal/C. Leo (EDD) + Vivica/White Rabbit (Def Down) + Hachiko (Crit) + Joon/Anne (Sniper).
    • Why: Hachiko replaces a standard hitter to amplify the tile damage of the whole team.
  • The Minion Engine (PvP):
    • Hachiko + Waterpipe/Bera/Freya.
    • Why: The minion summoners trigger Hachiko's passive every turn, giving him free mana and health, helping him fire faster than Average speed.

Counters & Anti-Synergies

  • Counters: Dispellers (Sabina, Melendor, countless modern heroes) wipe his buffs instantly. Buff Blockers (Mist, Franz) prevent him from doing anything useful.
  • Anti-Synergy: Do not pair with Wilbur or other damage sharers if you are relying on Counterattack, as spreading the damage reduces the reflected "spike" damage to individual enemies (though it keeps your team safer).

Advice for New Players

If you pull Hachiko early, he is a carry. Max him immediately. His counterattack will let you beat map bosses that are way above your power level, and his crit buff will speed up your farming. He is a fantastic "first legendary."

Advice for Veterans

Hachiko is likely a benchwarmer for your war teams unless you are playing in a very specific Rush format or have a shallow roster. However, do not feed him. Keep him for your Titan team. He does not need Limit Break 2 (Alpha Aethers) to do his job on Titans, but he does need emblems to survive the Titan's hits. Save your Alphas for modern stats.

Community Corner: Hot Takes & History

The community fell in love with Hachiko immediately, not just for his skills, but for his lore connection to the real-life loyal dog.

  • "He is the best flank to a tank that prevents buff dispells... Great for titans, great for challenge events, great everywhere!" - Early adopter enthusiasm.
  • "I’ve seen the movie with Richard Gere. Was crying like a baby bird during that one. That is one of two reasons I want him. The second one is that he looks like a Doge." - The emotional connection is real.
  • "Attack all the way... You want to maximise on his strengths. Defence lessens the counterattack damage." - Valid strategy for Riposte heroes.

Final Thoughts

Hachiko is the definition of a "Good Boy" who has aged gracefully into a specialized role. He may not be the terrifying samurai he was in 2022, but his katana is still sharp enough to carve up Titans. He brings utility that doesn't strictly rely on stats (Crit Chance), ensuring he has a home in your roster forever.

Verdict: A loyal companion for Titans and map stages, but leave him at the dog park during high-level War.

Costume: N/A (Hachiko currently does not have a costume).
