Vlad: The Count of Zero Impact?

Overview

Vlad is a 3-star Rare hero from the Return to Morlovia (Halloween) event. As a member of the spooky season cast, he brings a classic vampire aesthetic and a kit centered around attrition and preventing enemy sustain. He operates at Very Fast mana speed, which is usually a hallmark of powerful heroes, but Vlad comes from an older era of Empires & Puzzles. While his conceptβ€”a healing-stealing duelistβ€”sounds great on paper, he struggles to make a dent in the modern landscape.

Vlad

Hero Art & Visuals

Vlad sports the quintessential "Hollywood Vampire" look: pale skin, open shirt revealing an unnecessary amount of chest (and a dagger necklace?), and glowing red eyes. It’s a classic design that fits the Halloween theme perfectly, though he looks perhaps a bit too confident for someone whose bite is often softer than a mosquito's.

To put it bluntly, Vlad’s stats are severely outdated. With a base power of 449 and an attack stat of just 368, he is miles behind modern 3-star heroes. For comparison, newer 3-star heroes like Jax or Rudolph C1 boast power levels well over 530 and attack stats pushing 550–600+. Vlad is trying to fight in a weight class that he no longer belongs to; his defensive stats are passable for a classic 3-star, but his offensive presence is virtually non-existent by today's standards.

Special Skill: Dawn of Sorrow

Dawn of Sorrow

Mana Speed
Very Fast
  • The target receives 65 Surge Bleed damage over 5 turns. (If a target already has this effect, the duration will be refreshed and the damage will be increased by 115. Max total damage 295.)
  • The caster steals 61% of any healing applied to the target for 3 turns.

Dawn of Sorrow is a fascinatingly unique but practically flawed skill.

  • The Damage: It deals fixed damage over time (DoT). At base, it's 65 damage over 5 turns. That is 13 damage per turn. Even in 3-star tournaments, this is negligible. If you manage to fire him again on the same target, it refreshes and stacks up to 295 total damage (59 per turn).
  • The Healing Steal: This is his main gimmick. Stealing 61% of healing applied to the target is a cool mechanic to counter healers.
  • The Problem: The setup required to make this work is immense. You need to hit a specific target, hope they are about to be healed, and hope that 61% of that healing (plus the tickle of DoT) actually matters. In a meta where battles are decided by massive alpha strikes or powerful buffs, waiting 5 turns for mediocre damage is a losing strategy.

By the Numbers

  • Mana Speed: Very Fast (6.5 tiles). This is his one saving grace, allowing him to charge in 2 matches (6 tiles) with a small amount of mana support (e.g., family bonus or emblems/troops).
  • Damage Potential:
    • Cast 1: 65 damage total.
    • Cast 2 (Refresh): +115 damage.
    • Max Stack: 295 damage.
    • Comparison: A modern sniper hits for 300-400% upfront damage instantly. Vlad needs multiple casts and 5 turns to achieve what others do in one click.

Family Bonus, Passives, Aether Power & Unique Abilities

Family Bonus

Monthly Event - Morlovia

  • Bonus for 1/2/3 Unique Heroes:
  • +3%/+6%/+9% mana generation
  • The members of this family have additional perks in the Halloween event.

The Morlovia Family bonus provides nice perks like mana generation delays for enemies, but it requires multiple unique family members. While useful, it doesn't salvage Vlad's individual performance.

Passives

Passive Icon
Inherent Abilities

Passive Skills

  • Steal Buff
When this character casts their Special Skill, they have a 65% chance to steal the newest dispellable buff from a random enemy that has buffs. If no enemy has buffs, deals 150% damage to all enemies.

Steal Buff: This is actually a very strong passive. A 65% chance to steal the newest dispellable buff from an enemy is excellent utility, especially at Very Fast speed. If no buffs are present, he deals 150% damage to all enemies (which, given his low attack stat, is still not a lot, but better than nothing). This passive is arguably better than his active skill.

Aether Power

Vampire
Aether Power

Vampire

At the start of each battle, this Hero heals 100% of dealt normal damage for 6 turns.

In battles with multiple waves, the effect is refreshed at the beginning of each wave.

Vampire: Heals for a percentage of normal damage dealt. Since his attack stat is rock bottom, this healing is minimal and doesn't significantly boost his survivability.

Legacy & Modern Relevance

  • Historical Context: When Vlad was first released, he was considered "niche" at best. Players experimented with him to counter heavy healing teams in 3-star arenas, but he never truly found a home in the meta.
  • Power Creep Analysis: He has been completely left behind. Modern 3-stars have passives, stats, and skills that do more in one turn than Vlad does in five.
  • Modern Viability: Non-existent. He is currently one of the weakest event heroes in the game. His damage is too low to be a threat, and his utility is too situational.

Costume & Costume Bonus

Note: At the time of this review, Vlad does not have a costume.

Emblem Path Analysis

If you insist on using Vlad (perhaps for a specific challenge or personal affection), you need to keep him alive long enough to cast multiple times.

The Survivor (Defense/Health)

  • Path: Defense > Health > Attack
  • Pros: Maximizes his survivability, allowing him to potentially stack his DoT and steal more buffs via his passive.
  • Cons: His attack statβ€”and thus his passive's "damage all" component and tile damageβ€”remains pitiful.

Final Recommendation

Go Defense/Health. He is a support/disruptor, not a damage dealer. His DoT is fixed damage, so Attack emblems do not increase his special skill damage (only his tile damage and conditional passive damage).

Strengths

  • Very Fast Mana: Can charge quickly and potentially disrupt early game buffs.
  • Buff Steal Passive: The 65% chance to steal a buff is legitimate utility.
  • Healing Steal: Can annoy teams relying heavily on a single healer (if aimed correctly).

Weaknesses

  • Abysmal Stats: His stats are ancient and crumble against modern heroes.
  • Low Impact Skill: 13 damage per turn is effectively nothing.
  • Slow Ramp-Up: Requires multiple casts on the same target to reach decent damage numbers.
  • Conditionality: If the enemy doesn't heal, half his skill does nothing.

Best Game Modes

  • Rush Attack (3-Star): His Very Fast speed is wasted here, but he can spam his skill. However, better options usually exist.
  • Buff Booster (3-Star): If he steals a buff, he gains value. His passive shines here.
  • Collector's Shelf: He looks nice next to other Halloween heroes.

Advanced Strategy & Team Compositions

Honestly, the best strategy with Vlad is to use him as fodder for other heroes. However, if you must use him:

Sample Team Ideas

  • The "Death by 1000 Cuts" Team: Pair him with other DoT heroes like Tyrum or Jahangir to layer damage effects while he prevents healing.
  • The Morlovia Family Team: Run him with Goopy or Buster to trigger the family bonus, hoping the mana generation delay buys you time.

Counters & Anti-Synergies

  • Cleansers: Any hero that cleanses status ailments (like Helo) immediately wipes Vlad's hard-earned DoT stacks, rendering him useless.
  • HoT (Heal over Time): While he steals healing, if the enemy has a HoT active before he hits, he misses the initial tick.

Advice for New Players

Do not level Vlad. Even as a new player, you will likely pull Season 1 heroes like Tyrum or Balthazar who are more consistent and useful. Save your feeder heroes and ascension materials for someone else.

Advice for Veterans

You probably already ate him. If you have him in your roster, he is a relic. Do not Limit Break him. Do not give him Alpha Aethers. He is a candidate for the Soul Exchange if they ever accept 3-star heroes (they don't, so just feed him).

Community Corner: Hot Takes & History

The community has never been kind to Vlad, and time has not healed those wounds.

  • "I usually keep at least one of each hero I get. Vlad is an exception... He is just terrible."
  • "Vlad is a disappointing rare hero. Unlike most 3* heroes... he doesn’t deserve the food and mats."
  • "Missing on Effect 1 is 'This effect can’t be dispelled.' Sarcasm regarding how weak the effect is"
  • One user tried to defend him: "Vlad managed to survive Li’s hit... and he stole Sabina’s healing long enough for me to kill Sabina." But they admitted, "only reason Vlad was even in that attack team, was that I had nobody better."

Final Thoughts

Vlad is a vampire who forgot to sharpen his fangs. While his concept of a very fast anti-healer is interesting, the numbers just aren't there. He does too little damage, too slowly, with stats that leave him incredibly fragile. Unless he receives a massive overhaul or a costume that rewrites his entire existence, he remains one of the weakest heroes in the game.

Final Verdict: Fodder. Don't let him suck the resources out of your roster.
